How often do you think about meeting the demands of a more sustainable supply chain? We think about it every day... or at least how we can help you meet those demands. As sustainability takes center stage, more companies are turning to rail transport. It’s cost-effective, reduces emissions, and eases road congestion – making logistics smarter. That’s why we’ve invested in developing a robust railway system that connects the Port of Gothenburg with 26 inland terminals across Sweden and Norway. This initiative, known as Railport Scandinavia, facilitates the efficient and environmentally friendly transportation of containers, trailers, and export goods like timber and steel. Each terminal offers a comprehensive range of services, including customs handling, storage, and empty container depots – all designed to meet your specific needs. Since the launch of Railport Scandinavia over 20 years ago, the proportion of rail-based container traffic has grown from 20% to 60%. This shift reflects a growing recognition of the benefits that rail transport offers. The future of logistics is on the rails – will you be on board? #PortOfGothenburg #RailTransport #Logistics #Future #RailportScandinavia

This weekend has been a crucial one for us as we commenced SAT3 testing at our onshore power facility in the Energy Port. Starting on Friday, we collaborated with Terntank’s vessel, Tern Island, to carry out these vital tests. The process began with connecting the high-voltage cable to the vessel and conducting safety checks without live power. Once the initial checks were completed, we activated the high-voltage supply and repeated the safety tests with live power, including simulating power interruptions to assess the vessel's response. After confirming that all safety systems were functioning correctly, we moved on to testing the normal power supply, ensuring the accuracy of energy metering. The final step was disconnecting the cable, followed by celebrating the success of the tests late Monday evening. These tests were only possible through the tremendous dedication and collaboration of all involved parties, including TERNTANK, NEOT, Inter Terminals Sweden AB, St1 Sverige AB and Actemium Sweden. The successful execution of these tests required significant effort, and every stakeholder demonstrated an extraordinary willingness to adjust their schedules, be present on-site, and contribute in every possible way. As we approach the activation of our onshore power facility, we want to express our sincere gratitude to our partners. Together, we are creating a solution that not only sets a new standard for sustainable maritime operations but also delivers significant benefits to our customers by reducing the environmental impact of tankers while at quay. About The Green Cable 🔋 The SAT3 tests are part of the Green Cable project, a world-unique concept developed by the Port of Gothenburg in close cooperation with key partners. This project aims to provide safe, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective shoreside power for tankers berthed at the Energy Port. The Green Cable project seeks to establish a new global standard for onshore power supply in hazardous environments. #onshorepower #ops #onshorepowersupply #maritimeinnovation #portofgothenburg #sustainablemaritime #tankers #energy

We had the honor of welcoming the 125-meter-long Indian Navy frigate, INS Tabar, to the Port of Gothenburg this week. The visit was especially meaningful as it coincided with the celebration of India’s Independence Day aboard the ship. Our CEO, Göran Eriksson, and Harbour Master, Pontus Bengtsson, proudly represented the Port of Gothenburg, alongside Mayor Aslan Akbas, who represented the City of Gothenburg during this memorable occasion.   A heartfelt thank you to the crew of INS Tabar for the visit and the invitation to join in this significant celebration.

On the 69th floor of Karlatornet, with a magnificent view of Gothenburg and our port, CEO Göran Eriksson had the honor today to speak before the Nordic Ministers of Transport and Housing. Göran described the function and importance of the port for the business sector, how the railway connects us with the entire country, and how we continuously work towards more efficient and sustainable transportation. Now, can you name the two ships seen through the windows?

Logistics opportunities at the Port of Gothenburg are expanding, and in collaboration with Castellum, we are developing a modern logistics park with strong sustainability goals. This new facility will offer excellent access to the largest port in the Nordics, an intermodal terminal, key industries, and major highways in and out of Gothenburg.  In this new logistics park, OneMed Sverige is the first tenant to sign an agreement and we're excited to welcome them to Halvorsäng and our port. The new facility, covering 45,000 sqm, will be built to high environmental standards and will feature solar panels with a capacity of 3 GWh annually. In total we plan to develop several buildings ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 sqm in the joint venture. Some of the buildings could be up to 35 meters high, allowing for space-efficient storage of large volumes. When the entire area is completed, the total building area will amount to approximately 145,000 sqm. Nearly five months have passed since the first site cabin was placed at Skandiahamnen, and the work is now in full swing. With 120 employees and 1,500 piles, there's a lot to manage within the Skandia Gateway project. Here's a quick update: Before the summer break, we successfully started the demolition of the quay front, pile extraction, and pile driving. Additionally, we began the excavation and piling on the terminal area. We have also put in place the necessary safety measures and environmental protections to ensure the work progresses smoothly. The remaining tasks, including further construction of the quay front and terminal area development, will continue after the summer. Overall, the initial phase has progressed satisfactorily, and the timeline remains on track as we enjoy the summer break. About the Skandia Gateway Project: The Port of Gothenburg is the only port in Sweden capable of receiving the world’s largest vessels, although currently not fully loaded. To address this and support the future demands of Swedish industry, the fairway needs extensive deepening. The Skandia Gateway project, managed jointly by the Swedish Maritime Administration and the Port of Gothenburg, will deepen nearly five kilometres of the harbour. This involves dredging between 9 and 11 million cubic metres of clay, increasing the maximum depth for ships from 13.5 meters to 16.5-17.5 meters. Additionally, the turning circle outside the Container Terminal will be widened, and quays and terminal areas will be reinforced to handle two large vessels simultaneously. Preparations began in 2019, with quay reinforcement starting in early 2024 and dredging commencing in autumn 2026. The project is expected to be completed 2028. #skandiaporten #skandiagateway #construction #engineering #infrastructure
