In recent years, the debate on the connection between ultra-processed food, nutritional quality, and health has been heated. FoodFacts has done the first-ever mapping in Sweden on the relationship between the level of food processing (Nova) and its nutritional quality (Nutri-Score). In the mapping, 30,000 food items were analyzed from the four largest grocery store chains' online platforms, and products scanned in the FoodFacts app. For products with the lowest Nutri-Score rating, E, a whopping 77% are ultra-processed, and 66% of those with Nutri-Score D are also ultra-processed. On Thursday 🌱 FoodFacts joined AGFO talk to find out about the latest in measuring the biodiversity impact of food. 🐝 FoodFacts is proud to be part of the RISE Research Institutes of Sweden Biodiversity database project group alongside Coop Sverige. 🌿🤝 Key Takeaways from the event: - Mattis Bergquist, Chief Sustainability at Coop Sverige, highlighted that while measuring biodiversity is challenging and not exact, the RISE project's second phase aims to enhance measurement accuracy and will include more parts in the calculations. 📊🔍 - With numerous methodologies under development to gauge biodiversity loss, we will see a growing need for a harmonized system, similar to carbon footprints. 🌍 - Robert Dinwiddie Yondt, expert on biodiversity from KRAV, revealed that organic farms have 50% more pollinators and plant species compared to conventional farms. 🐞 Here's an insight from our CEO, Alexandra Ferreira, on this topic: “If we take everyone on the same journey that we have taken with carbon dioxide, in ten years we will all have a better understanding of which methods and substances harm or improve biodiversity and will be able to avert the looming loss of biodiversity.” What do you think about the future of biodiversity measurements?
