Is 5G better than 4G for mining, and why? How can miners build a future-proof network that’s ready for digitalization and automation? Here are some key points to consider. What are the key differences between 4G and 5G? 5G utilizes the same radio spectrum and network infrastructure as 4G with the addition of higher frequency spectrum and transmission technologies. While the first four generations of cellular networks were essentially designed for the consumer market, 5G offers the capacity and reliability needed for industrial use cases. What common challenges do miners face with cellular networks? Antennas and other network hardware often lack the durability to deal with mining’s tough conditions. Additionally, many operations lack in-house experience with the operation, maintenance and upkeep of cellular networks. What are some hurdles to getting started with 5G? It can be difficult to access public 5G infrastructure in remote areas. When it comes to private networks, cost, licensing and bandwidth availability must be addressed.
