Earlier this month, Typhoon Yagi, the strongest storm in 30 years, ravaged northern Thailand and northern Vietnam with floods and landslides, displacing families and destroying homes, crops and livelihoods. Meanwhile, the largest flood in Poland in 27 years started on September 14, causing severe damage to the southwestern part of the country where our three factories in Świdnica, Żarów and Oława are located. We want to help. In Thailand and Vietnam, our teams are working hard to support the community through initiatives such as free services by technicians and discounts for spare parts; provision of washing and drying stations free for use by all victims in Chang Rai, Thailand (pictured); donation of vacuum cleaners and water dispensers to Thai authorities; donation of rice cookers and kettles in Vietnam (pictured); and donations from Electrolux Vietnam employees. Financial support from our non-profit Electrolux Food Foundation is helping provide survival kits and essential items to 1,000 people in northern Thailand and another 1,000 in northern Vietnam, who are all struggling to access even basic necessities. Meanwhile, Electrolux Group in Poland has provided support to victims by donating appliances to local charities. Employees whose houses were flooded also received Electrolux products and aid initiatives within the factories are also organized to help affected employees, such as fundraisers, fairs and collection of basic necessities. In order to encourage people to care more for their clothes, so that they can last longer, we wanted to establish whether people care enough about their clothes in the first place. The good news is that more than 8 in 10 Europeans (84%) say they care about looking after their clothes. However, nearly two thirds of Europeans (62%) do not realize the way they launder has a major effect on how long their clothes last. People most commonly think that fabric quality has the biggest influence. While it certainly plays a role, we see from our Care Index that adjusting temperature and cycle duration can increase the life of a T-shirt and a pair of jeans by over 50%. Our annual diversity event, AsYouAre Week, is taking place across Electrolux Group. We were honored to be joined by keynote speaker Lola Akinmade, a bestselling author and award-winning photographer. To help us understand the positive impact of food technology and promote more sustainable food habits in managing and eating food, we’ve established long-term partnerships with various food expert organizations. Here’s a rundown of some partnerships and what we are working toward, together: • University partnerships — such as with Clemson University (US), Università degli Studi di Padova (Italy) and FURB - Universidade de Blumenau (Brazil) to calculate the positive impact of freshness technology on reducing food waste and emissions. • Mérieux NutriSciences Brasil — to test freshness and the impact of cooking technology on food lifespan and nutrient preservation with different cooking methods. • Waste Watchers — for research on food waste habits in different countries of the world to identify the most wasted foods and quantity by country. • FoodTech Hub Brasil — the partnership aims to develop research, solutions development and innovation activities in food, with laboratory capabilities together with two other companies. • Misfits Market — we support the Misfits Market subscription box service, which sells food to US consumers that would be otherwise unnecessarily thrown away. • RISE Research Institutes of Sweden — to calculate environmental impacts and nutritional values of different diets and foods, including the preservation and preparation phases. What a start for AEG at the 100th IFA Berlin! This morning, we had the honor of welcoming German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to our AEG booth. He got an exclusive first look at the brand-new AEG Kitchen Range, which made its world debut at yesterday's Media Conference. Chancellor Scholz was particularly impressed by the AEG SaphirMatt induction hob and personally tested its scratch-resistant glass surface in a live demo.
