🚙  With the ambition to be a global leader and influencer in selected areas of AI for automotive applications, AI Sweden has now launched our Automotive Cluster! 🎤 As a kickoff, representatives from the industry gathered at an event in Gothenburg. Mauricio Muñoz delivered a keynote address, followed by panel discussions moderated by Bryan Reimer with experts with executive experience from an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), a Tier 1 supplier, and an autonomous driving software company. 📌 Takeaways - The road traffic system is  a very complex environment, which AI can interpret to make travel safer - In medicine, both regulators and private corporations are good at making cost/benefit analyses – the automotive industry can draw parallels and identify opportunities to enhance its ability to create value from AI - We will continue on the path of taking incremental steps towards fully self-driving cars, with each step adding new value - There is enormous potential for pre-competitive, cross-industry collaboration within the automotive cluster 🎯 In his keynote, Mauricio Muñoz highlighted how the exploding costs of developing frontier AI models, coupled with diminishing performance returns and tighter access to high-quality data is currently shaping the opportunities or "bets" for AI in the automotive industry. Specifically, differentiating research enables scalability in AI adoption, and includes topics such as synthetic data and simulation, training multi-tasking models on proprietary multimodal data, pushing pareto fronts in the context of embedded AI, and even incorporating reasoning models to tackle long-standing problems of explainability and verifiability of AI for automotive. 💬 "At AI Sweden, we are already working on many of the areas discussed, and are getting started on others. But we will now also be entering focussed discussions with interested partners to identify the areas our Automotive Cluster wants as a focus area here at AI Sweden," says Mats Nordlund, Head of AI Labs. 🗺️ The outcome of those meetings should be a roadmap for the cluster: - Develop a strategy - Create a platform for collaboration - Find out how to best leverage the partnership - Setup concrete projects - Seek complementary funding - Scale learnings using AI Sweden’s talent projects 🎦 We'll be sharing event recordings soon! Building a Better Energy System with AI 🛠️ In mid-November, AI Sweden, Energiforsk AB, and Power Circle AB will bring together industry leaders, researchers, and innovators for AI4Energy, a two-day conference in Stockholm focusing on the possibilities of AI in the energy sector. From predictive maintenance to accurate forecasting and sustainability initiatives, AI is set to transform how we manage and optimize energy systems. Key insights will come from experts like: ◾ Jenny Gustavsson, CIO at Öresundskraft AB, sharing real-world AI applications that save millions through better forecasting and predictive maintenance. ◾ Christian Lind from Modulai, discussing how diffusion models—technology typically used in image creation—are being repurposed to forecast energy systems. ◾ Ulrika Jägare from Scania Group, highlighting how cross-industry AI collaboration can drive both profitability and sustainability. AI in Space: Latest Updates on Decentralized Learning in Satellite Systems 🚀 Hey everyone! This is Rasmus Maråk, Research Engineer at AI Sweden, taking over the account today to share exciting insights from our latest work exploring decentralized learning for space applications. 🌍 At AI Sweden, we’re integrating artificial intelligence with satellite systems to tackle some of Earth’s biggest challenges. By leveraging decentralized learning, we’re empowering satellites to operate autonomously, processing vast amounts of data directly onboard without constant reliance on ground-based systems. This is a game-changer for reducing latency and making timely, data-driven decisions already in orbit. 🌠 What’s new? Currently, we’re applying decentralized learning to a range of projects in Earth observation and radio astronomy. These AI-driven systems are designed to independently process and analyze data, allowing for more efficient and accurate insights into everything from environmental monitoring to studying the cosmos. This technology not only improves the efficiency of space exploration but also opens doors to innovative solutions for global challenges like climate change, resource management, and disaster response. His career has been marked by significant contributions to AI research and development across various industries, including roles at MIT, Jaguar Land Rover, and the America’s Cup, where he applied machine learning techniques to enhance performance in nautical sports. “I’m delighted to welcome both Dr. Robert A.
