Quneitra (an aw Al Qunaytirah, Qunaitira, or Kuneitra; Arabic: القنيطرة al-Qunayṭrah) is the lairgely destroyed an abandoned caipital o the Quneitra Govrenorate in sooth-wastren Sirie. It is situatit in a heich valley in the Golan Heights at an elevation o 1,010 metres (3,313 feet)[1] abuin sea level. Quneitra wis foondit in the Ottoman era as a way station on the caravan route tae Damascus an subsequently became a garrison toun o some 20,000 fowk, strategically locatit near the ceasefire line wi Israel. Its name is Arabic for "the little brig".[3]
