Gran Canaria (Spaingie pronunciation: [ɡɾaŋ kaˈnaɾja]) is the third island in size o the Canary Islands, an African airchipelagae that is pairt o Spain, wi a population o 847,830 (in 2015) that constitutes approximately 40% o the population o the airchipelagae. Locatit in the Atlantic Ocean aboit 150 kilometre (93 mi) aff the northwastren coast o Africae an aboot 1,350 km (840 mi) frae Europe.[2] Wi an aurie o 1,560 km2 (602 sq. mi)[3] an an altitude o 1,956 m (6,417 ft)[4] at the Pico de las Nieves, Gran Canaria is the third lairgest island o the airchipelagae in baith aurie an altitude.
