Each cell on its own has a simple function, like moving or spawning other cells. But when combined, more interesting behavior emerges...
Made for the GMTK Game Jam 2020 with the theme "Out of Control". In the game, you only set the initial conditions on the grid of cells. After pressing play, you can no longer control anything. Instead, a simulation unfolds, with each cell behaving based on its own set of rules..
The game is based on cellular automata like Conway's Game of Life. Atoms, molecules, cells - do they behave deterministically? And if they do, does combining them together change that?
Also the cell based machines you make in this game can grow exponentially, literally becoming out of control.
MAKING OF
HOW TO PLAY
Rearrange cells in the build area. The goal is for them to interact in a way that results in an enemy cell being hit. Press the play button to run the simulation. Press the step button to execute one generation of the sim. Press the restart button to enable editing again.
CELLS
Mover - moves in the pointed direction
Push - can be pushed in any direction
Slider - can be pushed only in one direction
Rotator - rotates adjacent cells 90 degrees each generation
Generator - Duplicates the cell behind it each generation
Immobile - Does not move in any direction, but can be duplicated by a generator
Enemy - Overlap any cell with the enemy to kill it

Yo, you should make a level editor I'd probably pay 5 bucks for it, and then you could send levels with a copy paste code or file that lets you gmail/just share it to others!
Suggestion: Add A Button Where If You Click It It Lets You Run A Mod You Have Downloaded.

Yo guys, try this on level 11. It is a 50/50 chance for some reason, pretty neat tho (press reset and try it again if it beats the level to see what I mean)
i tried it and yes it either kills all enemies either kills only the middle 2 enemies
with this pattern

like this with yes = kill all enemies and no = kills only 2 middle enemies
actually the slider can be moved on one axis (two directions) instead of one direction
Especially when there's not always a clear instruction about what you can move. I thought I could only move around my cells, but as it turns out - you can also move walls that are in your placing area. Overall good game.
Cell behavior is not deterministic. This is unfortunate for a puzzle game.

Hi not sure if anyone else has experienced this but when i run the game my CPU spikes up to 90% usage. My cpu is an i7-9700KF. Definitely think something is going on here
I had the same issue for a while I don't know how to fix it though one day it just didn't happen.

I got a more organized to level 15 than what im seeing everybody else do and wanted to share
Yeah mine wasn't very organized at the end and I didn't use 1 block.
ok, turns out there are (atleast) 2 ways to do this! (excluding just positioning the contraption elsewhere.) mine is... urs except the bottom row is in line with the first one (square)
IMO this way is most satisfying (that formation in upper left corner) bcus it fills the ENTIRE board
