Some weeds demand more than just the usual methods to control—especially in organic farming, where we steer clear synthetic herbicides. One of our biggest challenges has been Canada thistle, a weed with deep, resilient rhizomes that make it tough to manage. So, what did we do? We got creative! We found inspiration in a machine from the 1930s that’s no longer in use and gave it a new purpose. By reverse-engineering it, we built our own simplified prototype and turned it into a key tool for controlling this tough, invasive weed! Across our 3,700 hectares of organically certified fields, we produce over 8,700 tons of crops annually—proving that sustainable farming works without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, while still maintaining healthy soil and effective pest control. We understand changing diets is tough in today’s fast-paced world. That’s why we created Njamito—a healthy, organic meal for busy lifestyles. Following its success in Slovenia, we’re now expanding to help food companies create climate-friendly products that benefit both people and the planet. This autumn, we launched several on-farm trials centered around oat intercropping, a key part of our strategy to transition towards gluten-free production. In our semi-arid climate, establishing cover crops after harvesting small grains can be difficult due to low moisture. Through this intercropping trial, we aim not only to reduce pest and disease pressure but also to promote the regeneration of the grass-legume mix after the oat harvest, keeping the soil covered and protected for a longer period. Why does this matter? By intercropping oats with a grass-legume mix, we are working to enhance biodiversity, improve soil health, and optimize the use of resources, especially water and nutrients. We recently renewed our EU organic certificate for the second time, since first receiving it in 2022! This certification ensures our products meet the strictest standards—free from harmful chemicals, GMOs, and synthetic pesticides.
