🍇🤝⚡Galp, a Portuguese multinational energy corporation, in collaboration with the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, School of Agriculture, of the University of Lisbon (ISA), has recently launched a pioneering agrivoltaic project at Tapada da Ajuda’s vineyards in Lisbon. This innovative pilot study, which will be carried out for the upcoming 3 years, aims to explore how shading from solar panels can mitigate the climate change effects on grapevines and promote sustainable viticulture. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦? It integrates agriculture and solar energy production, allowing solar panels to be installed in cultivation and pasture areas. This dual-purpose approach enables simultaneously energy and food production, enhancing efficiency and sustainability. The most important part of the pilot project is the testing of a technology with the potential to mitigate the impacts of climate change in the wine production sector by ensuring the correct development and quality of the grapes and wine. The solar panels installed will also be used to produce energy to supply part of the electricity demand at ISA, contributing to its own carbon neutrality goals. The Irish developer WElink Group is preparing an investment in the #Algarve Solara4 (WElink Energy) plant, in #Alcoutim (#Faro), to increase #solar capacity and create two #wind farms, and even a #battery storage solution 🌞💨🔋 According to Jornal Económico, the idea to make this plant #hybrid comes from #Solara4's ambition to produce electricity continuously (24/7), making the most of the connection point with 200 megawatts (MW). And the goal is to have everything ready by 2030, then have almost 500 MW, and close PPA agreements ⚡⚡ The investment will be split between €200 million for wind, €35-€40 million for solar, and €70 million for storage, plus a €100 million investment in the second wind phase 💪 “We are seeking to maximize the connection point with hybridization projects. There is still more room to optimize the project with solar over-equipment. We have been studying the wind resource for over a year,” says Hugo Paz Almeida, Project Director Iberia at Welink. 🇵🇹 🌐 The Portuguese university institute ISCTE-IUL (Instituto Universitário de Lisboa), in collaboration with nine other European higher education institutions, had their project selected by the European Commission as part of the European Universities Initiative under the Erasmus Program. 🌍 ♻ This consortium, called the PIONEER Alliance, will generate knowledge to guide public policymakers between 2025-2028, focusing on the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 11, "Sustainable Cities and Communities." The key themes of the European agenda include #urban transition; #vulnerability, #inclusion and #health in cities; #sustainable and #resilient cities; #digital transition; #mobility; #energy transition; and #nature in cities. Maria das Dores Guerreiro, Vice-Rector of ISCTE, stated, "The PIONEER is composed of higher education institutions that combine technological and social sciences, complementing each other. ✈ Three years ago, Airbus Atlantic chose Portugal 🇵🇹 to set up a new factory in Santo Tirso, #Portugal, where it began producing fuselage panels for the A320 and A350 aeroplanes. By the end of 2023, the factory already employed 240 people, and this year, it will receive two more components for the A320's forward fuselage. For the company's CEO, Eric Belloc, 'supporting this increase in production is a priority'. The Airbus Atlantic plant in Santo Tirso has quickly become one of the leading aeronautical references in Portugal. 'The results are positive. We have achieved our growth targets – 240 jobs by the end of 2023 – and our investment targets. We continue to expand and should have around 330 employees by the end of 2024,' predicts Eric Belloc. 🚀 📈 Airbus' success in Portugal is directly related to the success of the #A320 family of aircraft, whose production continues to increase. Launching of 𝐎𝐞𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐬 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐇𝐮𝐛! 🎉 Last week, Instituto Superior Técnico, Município de Oeiras, CEiiA // Centre of Engineering and Product Development and AED Cluster Portugal formalised the creation of the 𝐎𝐞𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐬 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐇𝐮𝐛, a new technological hub for #Space innovation. 🌌 The agreement aims to unite the skills and efforts of a #university, a #businessassociation, a #research and #development centre and a #municipality to promote training and technological development in #SpaceInnovation 🤝 🛰 This innovative hub will be a powerful integration of #science, #technology, and #industry aimed at accelerating the development of complete new products and services for Space, right from #Portugal. In addition, the satellite entirely built at Instituto Superior Técnico reached orbit during the same week. Aboard European Space Agency - ESA’s Ariane 6 launch vehicle, the ISTSat-1 has become the first Portuguese university #nanosatellite to be launched into space. The activity and data collected by the satellite will be monitored by the #Técnico team at the ground station in #Oeiras. Five Portuguese students 🇵🇹 from the "Pedro Nunes" #highschool, in #Lisbon, who want to save lives with a sponge that detects breast #cancer, won the “FedEx Access Award” of the Signature Awards, Upper-Secondary Level at Gen-E 24, via their mini-company #Bfore 🏆💪🥇 The award highlighted the project's #innovation, global accessibility, #community development, and even #environmental #sustainability. And the team's vision of embracing opportunities beyond Portugal, and seeking to positively impact the world 🌍, was also highlighted 👌 The #FedExAccessAward emphasizes the importance of “global access” in a more than ever interconnected world, aiming to empower the next generation of Europe’s #entrepreneurs to embrace global opportunities and to seek partners and customers beyond the national borders. “Participating in Gen-E 24, the largest entrepreneurship festival in Europe held in Italy, was a privilege and an honor for us.
