🍲STEW QUEST!🍲

Play as a young woman who really REALLY wants to make a stew for tonight's dinner! But wait...where's the vegetables??? Guess we better explore to find a few before we can get started!

Interact with your surroundings- lots of things have flavor text!

(Some lag might persist in the browser version. Apologies!)

This is my first non-horror/non-dark themed game, made in collaboration with my husband, YellowOni. I hope you enjoy it! (:

There is no save function in the game- but it shouldn't take long to complete! I'd estimate around 20-30mins give or take.

Walk around, and try to find at least ONE Potato, at least ONE Onion and at least ONE carrot!!

‼️Hints are provided in the downloadable file!‼️

Otherwise, VIEW AT YOUR OWN RISK!!:

‼️ HINTS: (click me!)‼️

-To get started, why not check the upstairs bedroom! There's something about that bookshelf.......

-The locked door is asking how many gold flowers you've seen in this area (only on the same map as the lake)...it's a 2 digit number!

-The shovel can be used to dig up specific patches of dirt! Check out the area to the far left of the map in the same area you got the shovel to proceed!

-The chainsaw can cut down dead trees! There's one in the northeast part of the map where the lake is...and there's one behind the player's house!

the real onions were shovels we've made along this stew-venture...

( 1)

I wish I could eat an onion-y stew right about now 😔 (thanks for playing! :3 )

An absolute delight! Please, make more games like this!

Hello, I'm glad you liked it! I'd like to make something like this again sometime, but horror is my true passion :> thank you!

( 1)

Oh don't get me wrong, horror is my fav game genre and I love what you do, but it's nice to have a little nugget of joy sometimes. :D

Ik its been a while since you last updated but im really struggling with the flower part. It seems like no matter how many times I count I can't get it right😭

P.s yes I did make an acc just too finish a game

Hello, I'm not sure what you mean about the last time I updated, but that shouldn't have affected the answer? The flower part is asking you how many flowers are on the same map as the house (2 digit number), but for clarity's sake, the answer is 12.

sorry, specifically yellow flowers (I know it's difficult to tell because of the overlay, but that's what it meant (: )

I was looking for potatoes literally couldnt find them so i started looking for hints. and boom i clicked something wrong and my game is GONE. i was playing on browser :( but i'll sure play it again. I LOVED ITT!!

Oh nooo! I'm so sorry, i seem to only be having trouble with this game lately ><;; was it a game crash or do you remember if it was something specific that popped up? Thank you for playing though;;

(1 edit)

no no something else opened on the itch.io site and when i got back to the game it opened with a new game :"D

edit: i finished the game!! love the concept of bonus room!! so cute

( 1)

oh, I see! Haha, I'm still sorry that happened! But, I'm glad you got to play till the end! Thank you again so much!

I'm stuck on the little flashy thing in the underground. I can't get to it but I can't progress without the chainsaw. Am I missing something?

that's strange! You should have the empty bucket with you to be able to progress at that part!

I've got the bucket, but how do I empty the bucket?

well, in order to have gotten that far, you should have used the bucket in the fireplace and gotten the empty bucket. Could you walk me through what you did to get this error? The bucket should be empty by the time you get to the underground segment.

I'm not sure, I did empty the bucket onto the fireplace. I clicked on the well a couple times to make sure there was nothing else there, maybe that's it. I can start over. Sorry for the time.

ok, but if you continue to run into this issue, please do let me know so I can see if there's something I'm missing on my end. I apologize for all the back and forth ):

The same thing happened to me, but after reading your comments I think its because I clicked the well after I emptied my bucket to the fireplace. I didn't think anything of it, but if we need to empty the bucket then I think we aren't suppose to fill it up with water again. I didn't know what to do to empty it so I had to restart

Hello!! I've since updated the game to reflect this issue- very sorry, that was my error;; But thank you for this info, it made it easier to rectify the issue! :> And thank you for playing!!

No worries! I still enjoyed the game regardless!

haha thank you!! I have ASD and I'd like to think that it played a roll in my game making (Probably true for most of my own, honestly).

Ham-ha! I really enjoyed this cute, little game. My favorite part overall is that you took a human, "mundane" experience such as using the meat before it goes bad and turning it into a little adventure. I love when narratives romanticize the cozy, average moments in life because those are the moments that we as average people experience the most. That's the appeal of 'cottagecore' LOL. Though Stew Quest captures a quaint feeling beyond just aesthetic.

There were other moments that reinforce this average narrative such as Ms. MC commenting on the pile of clothes that she needs to donate which was relatable to me as someone who ALSO has a box of unsorted clothes to donate. 🤣 I appreciated that these moments of cozy, mundanity were complimented by MC’s quirky commentary and (hopefully) larger than life moments such as stealing the neighbors potatoes and garden key. Breaking and entering is truly a staple of RPGs of any kind, so it was a much appreciated balance.

The extras room at the end of the game was a unique way to show your thoughts on the game. It’s a very cool idea! I agree that having the MC be silent wouldn’t have worked for this game. Her humor and silly quips were what gave the game its charm. The mechanics, music, and tileset supported MC rather than carrying the experience on their own. I really loved the brown-toned tiles and music! It was so cozy~!

Overall, I loved how you reframed a simple quest about a daily task into an adventure, or rather a ‘Stew-venture.’ Great work!!

Thank you so so much for such a detailed and very sweet comment!! I'm glad my silly humor was able to shine through with this little game! I had a lot of fun writing the dialogue, and I definitely pulled from my own experiences as well. (We have SO much stuff still in boxes from years ago 😭)

I've always wanted to make a little cozy game, and the tileset really helped inspire that for me! I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much, it was actually quite difficult to find music I was pleased with (picking spooky or creepy music is way easier haha!), so that was a challenge too. I'm glad it all came together into a cohesive little adventure, and it was a real happy experience getting to do so with my husband ❤️.

Adding bonus rooms is something I'm fond of, and I enjoy being able to pull back the curtain on gamedev stuff! I like when other authors have games like that- you always want to know more or at least i always do- always wanting to know as much lore or info about characters or development even in a debug room! Aah but I digress-

Thank you so so much!! My husband has seen and appreciates your kind words as well! :>

i loved the game, just a bit dissapointed there wasnt a separate ending for making the soup with 99 onions and giving wife food poisoning (/j)

good work!

( 1)
