Honor Bound
A downloadable game
Honor Bound is a live action game for exactly six players, designed by Randy Lubin and Jason Morningstar.
This game explores honor culture and masculinity through the lens of an old fashioned duel. Play starts just after a challenge is issued and follows the duelists, seconds, doctor, and judge as they struggle to de-escalate a fraught situation in a society that values reputation above all else.
The game takes roughly two hours to play. It starts with a workshop that will get you up to speed on the setting and themes of the game; you'll also establish the incident that triggered the duel. Once play begins, you'll be struggling to de-escalate the situation even as the characters negotiate the final details of weapons, ground, and range.
Praise for Honor Bound
"I don't know if I've been in a larp that examines a problem quite like this: it directly engages toxic masculinity, but with an alibi that protects us while we examine it. When we did the playtest, we were able to identify with the problem of honor culture, see it's effects today, but walk away from the larp clear-headed and with new insight.
I also think that sometimes, we don't examine toxic masculinity and what it does to *men.* What are we doing to ourselves? How do we perpetuate it? Separating the issue and examining it on it's own is so important.
Most important? This was fun. I'm very proud of how we've staged this experience, and the theatrical enhancements of the location. Playing this larp is just a good way to spend three hours." -- Ryan Hart
