South Asia's burgeoning population and rapidly growing economy have placed its energy sector on a robust growth trajectory. Total primary energy demand in South #Asia is expected to grow by 77%, reaching 2,235 Mtoe by 2050, with India contributing 80% to this growth acting as a powerhouse for the region. #Natural #gas, the cleanest burning hydrocarbon, is projected to raise its share in South Asia’s #energy mix to 13% by 2050 from 9% in 2022. South Asia is turning to #LNG to reduce coal dependency and boost renewable energy. Bangladesh and Pakistan will see domestic gas production fall, increasing LNG imports to 42 Mt and 31 Mt by 2050, respectively. India's LNG imports are expected to grow nearly fivefold to 105 Mt by 2050 from 22 Mt in 2023, despite a rise in domestic production. Affordability, along with energy sustainability and security, remains a key concern in the region.
