News from Europe! 📢 The European Commission has published a guidance document on #investment frameworks for cross-border #offshore grid and #renewable projects to reach the EU’s political ambitions on offshore renewables, as foreseen under the TEN-E Regulation and follow on the EU Action Plan for Grids. 💡The document supports EU countries, national regulatory authorities and system operators in realising #cost-benefit analyses and undertaking discussions on an equitable #cost-sharing and allocation of activities across borders, based on fair principles and sound technical calculations. 🌬️ Revolutionising Offshore Wind Energy with WinDTwin! Press Release, 09 July 2024 We are thrilled to announce the launch of WinDTwin, a groundbreaking project funded by the European Union, poised to transform the offshore wind energy sector. With a €6 million grant, this innovative three-year initiative brings together 13 diverse entities from 7 countries to develop a state-of-the-art digital twin (DT) platform for offshore wind farms. As the global demand for renewable energy grows, expanding onshore and offshore wind farms is essential. Strategic micrositing and optimal interconnection of turbines are crucial. However, integrating wind farms into larger clusters and virtual power plants can lead to long-distance negative interactions, affecting efficiency. To tackle these challenges, WinDTwin will develop a digital twin platform. This advanced tool will provide precise power production and energy demand forecasts and serve as a comprehensive resource hub. Since 2003, WavEC has been supporting marine renewable energy technologies and projects, at distinct stages, from the conceptual design and tank-testing to the licensing, permitting, construction, deployment, and operation stages. WavEC has a leading role in the first work package of the MISSION project – Grid of the future – with Alessandra Imperadore as work package leader. The organization’s involvement in the project is primarily attributed to its extensive experience in offshore renewables. Furthermore, with the expertise of Paula Bastos, WavEC contributes to the life cycle and life cost assessments of the three concepts developed within the project. WavEC is highly committed in advancing with the energy transition, with a particular focus on marine renewable energies. For this the support of grid infrastructure is essential. Fondation OPEN-C Joins Forces with European Demonstration Test Sites for Floating Offshore Wind 💪 The High Power Test Sites (HiPoTeSis) initiative is a cooperative platform of five European demonstration test sites: BiMEP Biscay Marine Energy Platform (Spain), Companhia da Energia Oceânica (Portugal), Fondation OPEN-C (France), Marine Energy Test Centre (METCentre) (Norway), and Plataforma Oceánica de Canarias (PLOCAN) (Spain). 🎯 Our objective is to advocate for the interests of offshore demonstration test sites in Europe, ensuring these sites can continue to drive #innovation and #development in the floating offshore wind sector. 📍 The test centres attended ETIPWind’s workshop in Brussels aimed to shape its messages to the newly elected EU policymakers, including the European Commission and European Parliament. ETIPWind is a platform for European wind energy stakeholders to identify R&D&I priorities and promote breakthrough innovations to EU policymakers.
