Wow, what a STARTup Tour it was 🚀 After exam period, we’ve just wrapped up our STARTup Tour Summer Edition 2024! With many student applications and amazing speakers , this semester’s edition has set new benchmarks. On the 9th of May, an enthusiastic group of 30 students from Lisbon's best universities embarked on an inspiring journey through Lisbon’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. The tour kicked off at Startup Lisboa, hosted by Partnerships Associate Sofia Dias Lopes. The co-founder & CEO of GoWizi Rui Mirra Santos shared his story and vision of streamlining distribution networks and reducing environmental impact. Our next stop was at the beautiful co-working and community space of Second Home. Here, the co-founder of greenmetrics.ai, Tiago Marques, showed us how their smart sensors and advanced analytics are transforming data into actionable insights to fight climate change. Following, we had an exciting keynote and networking session with serial entrepreneur and proven investor Frederik Fleck from Richmond View Ventures GmbH, a venture capital firm specializing in B2B SaaS, health tech and AI innovations. He shared first-hand insights of building his current venture, PausePoint which enhances piece of mind and productivity. In the last stop, we had the privilege of being hosted by Pleo with a lovely rooftop and delicious food & drinks. We heard interesting keynotes from AI researcher Luisa Coheur from Instituto Superior Técnico and Luís Brito e Faro from Brave Generation Academy. Next up, Valutia, a VC firm focused on supporting early-stage startups in Brazil and the Iberian Peninsula. Bruno Lino, Founder and Managing Partner, shared his experiences and insights on what founders need to be successful. Lastly, Chief Revenue Officer Arun Mani shared his entrepreneurial and managerial journey. Pleo has raised over €430m is revolutionizing financial management for businesses by simplifying spending controls and automating tedious financial processes, allowing companies to focus on growth and innovation. Running your team like a professional sports team? 🤔 Paynest Co-founder & CEO Nuno Pereira shared his leadership & entrepreneurship learnings with us in our last fireside session - Founder edition 🚀 Nuno is an excellent founder with a background as an aerospace engineer with Cum laude in AI and previous experience as Principal Amazon & Senior Manager McKinsey & Company 💼 🧠 Nuno shared his biggest learnings from leading large teams as well as founding Paynest - creating financial wellbeing for every employee: 👥 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦: With a smiling face, he emphasized the known saying: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” He argues that there are only one type of problems, “people problems” that can be solved by people. ⚠️ 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦: Obsess about understanding the problem and the space in very much detail. Many founders primarily focus on their idea without focussing on problem & needs first. 🆙 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Nuno argues that 1st time founders focus on product and 2nd time focus on distribution (PMF > PCF). It is crucial to build up effective distribution capabilities and act fast. ⚡ 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Speed is the differentiator for success. You need fail fast and learn faster than your competitors. It is essential to create OKRs for each quarter and execute relentlessly. 💪 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥: Instead of focussing on (only) results, you should focus on what's within your control (inputs vs. outputs). For example, instead of tracking your closed/lost leads, you should track and improve your input, your sales acquisition process. 📘 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Learn from others and get financially educated to ensure founders' financial literacy. To ensure smooth sailing in fundraising rounds, talking to fellow entrepreneurs is key. Their unique production process is based on the idea to save CO2 emissions caused by bread waste. 🤝 The Mission Wasted Gin’s mission is to redefine the modern spirits experience by creating a Gin that us beautifully designed, eco-conscious and delicious. With each bottle, we aim to reduce CO2 emissions by 4kg, turning every sip into a sustainability effort. 📢 Latest Updates "We have already developed our first prototype. The process involved several steps, including mashing surplus bread, water and malt to create Antwort, fermenting it into a beer-like substance, distilling high-Proof alcohol from it and finally infusing it with water and botanicals to create our distinct gin. As of right now, we are currently working on our Recipe development for the Gin Taste."
