🔒 𝗖𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 🔒 “In light of the recent cyberattacks on the Agência para a Modernização Administrativa (AMA), we spoke with INESC-ID researcher Ricardo Chaves, about the rising wave of cyberattacks and how we, as citizens, can play a role in fostering resilience. As cyberattacks become more frequent, they target valuable infrastructures for financial, political, or ideological gain. The AMA ransomware attack highlights this, affecting a critical service responsible for identity authentication. With such valuable data at stake, the impact of compromising a single essential service cascades throughout the entire system. 🕑 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲? In ransomware attacks, criminals often encrypt data, demanding payment to release a decryption key. The safest option is to restore the system from a functional backup. In AMA’s case, the State took the responsible approach by not paying, opting to recover and secure the system manually—a lengthy but essential process to ensure safe, effective restoration. 🔹 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗕𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱? While no system is entirely immune, HSMs (Hardware Security Modules) used by AMA are robust security components that house cryptographic keys and withstand physical and logical attacks, making data compromise highly unlikely. 💡 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗲, 𝗮𝘀 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻𝘀, 𝗗𝗼? Citizens play a role in pushing for strong cybersecurity. Political pressure for investment in secure infrastructures and skilled personnel is crucial. Resilience requires preparation, and national cybersecurity is strengthened when backup systems are ready to activate if main systems are compromised. Although costly, this readiness minimizes the greater economic and social cost of downtime. 👉To read the full interview https://lnkd.in/df84sZU9 #Cybersecurity #DataProtection #DigitalTransformation #PublicSector #INESCID #CyberResilience #Ransomware #HighPerformanceComputing

📢 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗪𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘀 “𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻” 📚📚📚 Artificial Intelligence is something that affects all of us: citizens, decision-makers, parents, teachers 👩🏫. We must be ready to embrace it—not with fear, but with eyes wide open 👀. That’s the goal of the 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗔𝗜 project, led by INESC-ID researcher Helena Moniz, which aims to help people engage with the European Regulation, the AI Act 📜, and its implementation. Several recommendations emerged from discussions held by a multidisciplinary team 🤝 with partners like Unbabel, the The Alan Turing Institute, the United Nations 🌍, and the Champalimaud Foundation, which hosted the Bridge AI Conference on October 19. “It’s another technological revolution 🌐, with new aspects such as its impact on biology 🧬 and low-income countries 🌱,” said keynote speaker Pedro Conceição from the United Nations Development Program. Neuroscientist Joseph Paton 🧠 presented the findings on AI literacy, emphasizing that it varies depending on the audience—students 👩🎓, legislators, and decision-makers 🏛️. “We need to reduce digital inequalities, prepare the workforce, and enhance trust, privacy, and citizen security 🛡️,” Paton explained. António Gameiro Marques, Director-General of the National Security Office, likened these skills to wearing a seatbelt in a car 🚗: “It has to be instinctive.” One of the standout statements of the event came from Professor Mario Figueiredo, from Instituto Superior Técnico, during a roundtable on AI risks: “What we need is education, education, education 🎓.” 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: • Conduct a national survey on AI literacy 📊 • Offer incentives to retain specialists in Portugal 🇵🇹 • Rethink the Technological Free Zones. #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #AILiteracy #TechInnovation #DigitalTransformation #AIRegulation #EducationMatters #BridgeAI #EthicalAI #FutureOfWork #TechForGood #DataPrivacy #INESCID #AIAct #NationalSecurity #DigitalInclusion #AIConference #AIForEveryone

🚀 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐩𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬, 𝐒𝐮𝐝𝐨𝐤𝐮, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐎𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐚𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝗪𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝? 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠!🎉 On an otherwise lazy Saturday morning, a line spiralling around the 𝐓𝐞́𝐜𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐨 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 (𝐓𝐈𝐂) hinted that something extraordinary was about to happen – something worthy of the 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬. The mission? To set the record for the 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 in a single venue, a challenge that Instituto Superior Técnico and Magma Studio were determined to achieve. The 𝟗𝟎-𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧, held October 13, led by Inês Lynce (President of INESC-ID), Arlindo Oliveira (President of INESC), and Rodrigo Girão Serrão (an IST alum), featured creative ways to explain algorithms. From making paper planes ✈️ to solving Sudoku puzzles and asking a pretrained language model questions about the master peace of Portuguese literature, Os Maias. Though technical issues arose, by the end, the record was set, with 𝟏,𝟔𝟔𝟖 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐬 – surpassing the previous mark of 𝟕𝟐𝟒 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 set in Dallas, USA, in 2016. 🎉 For 𝐈𝐧𝐞̂𝐬 𝐋𝐲𝐧𝐜𝐞, the 𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞, the large number of 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭, and the overall excitement for programming were worth the effort of preparing such an unusual lesson. In the words of Técnico President, Rogerio Colaco, it was a true “𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭.”🌟 🔗 To know more about the backstage of the event 👇 https://lnkd.in/dhni79Jd Images | © Instituto Superior Técnico and INESC-ID #Innovation #Programming #GuinnessWorldRecord #Técnico #INESCID #YoungTalent #STEM #TechEducation
