Project Accelerat.ai is dedicated to change that. This consortium, with INESC-ID’s active participation, is advancing the digital transformation of public and private sectors in Portugal, aiming to build inclusive conversational agents for sectors like healthcare (SNS24) and customer support. 🏥💬 Led by Alberto Abad, INESC-ID participation is focused on Automatic Speech Recognition and Speech Synthesis, creating systems that improve speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and dialogue management—crucial for languages like European Portuguese, often overlooked by big tech. The goal? 🫁𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗿𝘂𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁?🔑 A new article, entitled “Integrated circuits that emulate human organs: Organs-on-chip” (“Circuitos integrados que simulam órgãos humanos: Órgãos-em-chip”) was recently published by INESC-ID researcher, in the area of Nano-Electronic Circuits and Systems, Fábio Passos, on Portuguese newspaper, “Jornal i”. In the article Fábio explains how this technology – a groundbreaking innovation that uses integrated circuits to mimic a human organ in a controlled microenvironment – could be a solution to “revolutionise drug development, disease research and personalised medicine, while reducing dependence on animal testing”. The UNLOOC Chips JU Project research project includes 51 organisations from 10 European countries. 🚀 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱!🚀 The AI Act, approved by the European Council last May, presents both a challenge and an opportunity for institutions and citizens alike. It will impact our lives in countless ways, but it’s also a chance for Portugal to emerge as a "frontrunner in responsible and innovative AI implementation," says Helena Moniz, INESC-ID researcher from the Human Language Technologies scientific area. With Bridge AI, a multidisciplinary project, coordinated by INESC-ID, gathering researchers, lawyers, entrepreneurs, and communicators, we aim to bring together ethics, law, and literacy around the European AI legislation. 💡⚖️📚 "We want to make a difference. How will a Portuguese citizen relate to the law, and how are we going to implement it? The network of expert partners will train a new group of researchers to develop urgently-needed technologies using cutting-edge deep learning methods. They will also promote innovative business models for responsible and sustainable privacy-aware technologies in the EU.
