CARE

This week on June 25th and 26th 2024 we held our first CARE Annual Meeting, with 60 participants from our two partner institutes, Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR) - Vall d'Hebron Institut de Recerca and Instituto de Medicina Molecular, invited collaborators from EUPATI and Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa and our European Research Executive Agency (REA) Project Advisor. Our meeting was structured around a main session updating the whole team on work package progress plus three specific workshops around Training Design, Open Innovation Management and Patient Involvement, respectively. The workshops set aside some precious time to delve deeper into these topics and, alongside, to get to know our colleagues across the border in a less formal context. It was an intensive but productive couple of days, with several avenues for new collaborations already initiated. The GIMM CARE contingent would like to thank the Vall D’Hebron team once again for their kind visit to Lisbon and all contributors for their help in making this a successful first meeting. 📢Foi publicada a Proposta de Indicadores relativos à Investigação Clínica e Inovação Biomédica (IC&IB)!   Esta proposta resulta de uma das iniciativas desenvolvidas pelo Subgrupo de Trabalho 2 do Grupo de Trabalho Mais Economia e Saúde, criado em abril de 2023, por iniciativa do Ministro da Economia e do Mar, em estreita articulação com o Ministério da Saúde e com o Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia e Ensino Superior, com a dinamização do Health Cluster Portugal (HCP).   Coordenado pela AICIB - Agência de Investigação Clínica e Inovação Biomédica, o Subgrupo de Trabalho 2, dedicado ao tema “Aumentar o valor social e económico através do estímulo à Investigação Clínica e Inovação Biomédica nos Hospitais”, contou com a participação de várias entidades e personalidades de referência no setor.   Esta proposta de indicadores foi elaborada no sentido de estimular a monitorização e melhoria do desempenho e eficácia dos CIC neste domínio, assim como para otimizar a rede de investigação clínica em Portugal e aumentar a competitividade internacional dos CIC portugueses. Yesterday marked the second CARE Joint Clinical Research Day, this time inviting collaborators from Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR) - Vall d'Hebron Institut de Recerca to visit the Lisbon contingent. Visitors included Director of Promotion & Development of Clinical Research Xavier Cañas, Director of External Strategy & Institutional Relationships Albert Barberà, and Gonzalo Mazuela and Francisco González from the VHIR Clinical Trials Unit. Starting off at the helipad(!) of Hospital de Santa Maria, the day’s activities took place across the Lisbon Academic Medical Centre CAML campus, including site visits to present the operational contexts of the Clinical Research Centre (CIC), START phase I oncology trials unit and the Biobanco iMM with follow-up working meetings held onsite at the Instituto de Medicina Molecular. This visit signifies one more step towards a common mission: boosting clinical research for the benefit of society.

Last week, our Clinical Research Team from CAML/Instituto de Medicina Molecular had the privilege of visiting the clinical research facilities at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR) - Vall d'Hebron Institut de Recerca and Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron hosted by our colleagues across the VH campus. As international leaders in healthcare research and innovation, this exchange was invaluable. This first VHIR-IMM Joint Clinical Research Day, as part of the CARE Project funded by the EU, exemplifies the power of collaboration in advancing healthcare. Sharing insights and expertise with VH represents a significant step forward in our collective mission - to drive impactful discoveries and innovations. In the context of CARE, Biobanco iMM continued to expand the healthy donor longitudinal collection with a blood donation initiative hosted onsite by our collaborators AdvanceWorks. A big thank you to all for your participation!

Last week iMM's Biobank successfully delivered its "Advanced Training Course in Biobanks" to participants from Portuguese-Language African Countries. Over the next few years we will continue to co-create innovative training offers from the Biobanco-iMM, CAML Biobank in collaboration with Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR) - Vall d'Hebron Institut de Recerca as part of CARE.
