An exciting milestone was achieved as the Moray West Offshore Wind Farm injected its first electricity into the grid. The offshore project, led by OW Ocean Winds, has successfully exported electricity from the Moray West site in the Moray Firth, Scotland, to the National Electricity Transmission System. The 882MW Moray West wind farm is now nearing the completion of its construction phase and is on track to become fully operational in 2025. The constant search for innovative solutions related to the challenges of decarbonization is part of EDP’s core. And although that might seem like only a concept, it is reflected in this picture of the Alqueva floating solar. The photo was taken by Diogo Cordeiro, an Innovation Project Manager at EDP, whose work, as he says, involves “finding disruptive, safe, and efficient solutions, while investing in green and sustainable technologies”. This picture, as he explains, “has traveled the world and has even been shared in reports on international channels (such as the BBC)", and we can clearly see why. #EDPWeChooseEarth #AllGreen2030 #EnergyTransition #EDPGlobalLens

As we move towards zero-emission models with renewable energy, we face challenges in material supply, production, and end-of-life management. We’re tackling these by using the three fundamental pillars of the circular economy: reduction, optimisation, and valorisation. By using fewer natural resources, making our products and services more efficient, and recycling as much waste as possible, we can use resources more efficiently and support our sustainability goals and environmental policy. Join us in promoting a circular economy for a cleaner, more sustainable future! 🌱 #EDPWeChooseEarth #AllGreen2030 #EnergyTransition #CircularEconomy

Climate transition plans are an important element for sustainable business and the fight against climate change. This article by World Economic Forum highlights the role of these plans in ensuring that net-zero goals, and other climate-centred objectives, are realistic and that their progress is monitored. As stated by our CEO, Miguel Stilwell d'Andrade, in the article, "at EDP, our Climate Transition Plan is a critical part of our overall strategy and gives transparency and credibility to our push towards a sustainable planet for the generations to come." The We Choose Earth Tour '24 has come to an end, and it was truly an inspirational event! The Tour brought together some of the most influential voices, including Ban Ki-moon, Cate Blanchett, Alex Honnold, and Kjell Nordström, whose contributions to the 2024 edition have truly sown the seeds of change. We are profoundly inspired by the insights shared by the speakers in Munich. Cate Blanchett emphasized, “We have to know sustainable energy is not a possibility, it’s a reality”, highlighting the urgency of our actions. Sandrine Dixson-Declève reminded us that “the cost of inaction is greater than the cost of action”. Ban Ki-moon, in his conversation with Miguel Stilwell d’Andrade, left us with the empowering message that "we can create the future we want”. Thank you to everyone who joined us in Munich and to those who joined us through the live streaming. Together, we are making significant strides towards a sustainable future for our planet because We Choose Earth. #EDPWeChooseEarth #AllGreen2030 #EnergyTransition

We are thrilled to announce that EDP has been awarded the prestigious 2024 International Edison Award by the Edison Electric Institute for our Alqueva Floating Solar Park! We are incredibly proud to see our innovative efforts recognized on such a significant platform at the EEI 2024 annual meeting in Las Vegas. The Alqueva Floating Solar Plant in southern Portugal is a pioneering project that integrates hydropower, floating solar, and battery storage, making it the largest floating solar energy production facility in a dam reservoir in Europe. With 12,000 solar panels supported by 25,000 floats, this facility generates 7.5 gigawatt-hours of clean energy annually—enough to power approximately 1,500 households and meet 30% of the region's annual energy needs. According to Ana Paula Marques, EDP’s Executive Board Member “Alqueva Park is a landmark project that showcases the potential of combining various renewable energy sources and technologies to deliver reliable and affordable clean energy to our customers and communities. We are incredibly proud to contribute to the energy transition across the globe.”. A heartfelt thank you to EEI for this recognition and to all our dedicated team members who made this project a reality. We are honored to contribute to the global energy transition and will continue to lead the way in sustainable energy solutions.
