#news 🌏 🌿 iBB-Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences has been driving critical research in #Food, #Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture, and #Environment, and enhancing international collaborations, now achieving significant milestones. Portuguese institutions have seen a success rate of over 25% in #Horizon_Europe Cluster 6 in 2023, comparable to the European average, and notable contributions come from Associação do Instituto Superior Técnico para a Investigação e o Desenvolvimento (#IST_ID), with its diverse program involvement, funds raised, and number of coordinations. #iBB is proud to contribute to this performance by coordinating two projects, FEASTS (Cluster 6) and POLYMERS-5B (CBE-JU), and participating in an additional CBE-JU project, adding up to the existent coordination of BIOVALUE project (CiTUA - Territory, Urbanism, and Architecture) and the participation from Interactive Technologies Institute in #TIDAL_ArtS project (Mission Ocean & Waters). However, these national achievements would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts 🤝 of various Portuguese institutions. This growing mobilization includes contributions from seven Collaborative Laboratories ( ATLANTIC, FeedInov CoLab, Food4Sustainability CoLAB MORE CoLAB - Laboratório Colaborativo Montanhas de Investigação, S2AQUAcoLAB, ADVID - Associação para o Desenvolvimento da Viticultura Duriense/CoLAB VINES & WINES, B2E Blue Bioeconomy CoLAB), three municipalities (Vila Nova de Famalicão, Barreiro, and Olhão) and many other industrial and RTO players. 🌍 How are Satellites used in LandSeaLot?  LandSeaLot utilises high spatial resolution data from land-focused satellites and high temporal resolution data from ocean-focused satellites, providing critical information used to monitor and analyse the dynamic interactions between land and sea. 🗺 In Portugal, at the LandSeaLot Integration Lab in the Tagus and Sado estuaries System (TSS), LandSeaLot will integrate satellite observations with data from numerical models and low-cost sensors, aimed to improve resolution and accuracy. 🛰 Satellites are a crucial component of the LandSeaLot Common Observation Strategy because they provide valuable information on spatial and temporal patterns to complement in situ observations and capture the large-scale natural variability of:  ✔ Water quality ✔ Coastal erosion ✔ Sea level rise ✔ Turbidity ✔ Chlorophyll ✔ Land use patterns By integrating different data sources and closing observation gaps between models, in situ and satellite observation, LandSeaLot will enhance modelling and forecasting capacity of the land-sea interface! 🌬️ Revolutionising Offshore Wind Energy with WinDTwin! Press Release, 09 July 2024 We are thrilled to announce the launch of WinDTwin, a groundbreaking project funded by the European Union, poised to transform the offshore wind energy sector. With a €6 million grant, this innovative three-year initiative brings together 13 diverse entities from 7 countries to develop a state-of-the-art digital twin (DT) platform for offshore wind farms. As the global demand for renewable energy grows, expanding onshore and offshore wind farms is essential. Strategic micrositing and optimal interconnection of turbines are crucial. However, integrating wind farms into larger clusters and virtual power plants can lead to long-distance negative interactions, affecting efficiency. To tackle these challenges, WinDTwin will develop a digital twin platform. This advanced tool will provide precise power production and energy demand forecasts and serve as a comprehensive resource hub.
