CNC-UC study suggests that 'old cells' in the skin may accelerate the ageing of other parts of the body. 🧠 By studying the effects of senescent cells - cells that accumulate as organs age - on other parts of the human body, two teams of Portuguese scientists discovered that the presence of these 'old cells' in the skin can negatively affect other organs in the human body, especially the brain, by spreading signs of ageing. 🔬 This discovery paves the way for the study of future therapies that could slow down the aging process in the human body. This study was carried out in collaboration with the leader of the Cellular and Molecular Aging Laboratory at the Mayo Clinic in the United States. 📣 On September 26, CiBB's Innovative Therapies area held its fourth annual retreat! The event brought together more than 100 people at the @Museu Nacional de Conímbriga to foster discussions in the field of innovative therapies. 🧬 Throughout the day, CiBB's Innovative Therapies community took part in various activities, including flash talks and poster presentations from each research group. There was also a CoLabs Roundtable with the participation of CoLAB AccelBio (Bárbara Gomes), CoLab4Aging (Philipp Tsolakis and Helena Antunes) and VectorB2B (Ana Custódio). The day included a networking lunch and a Face2Sci debate, ending with a celebration of Life Achievement and Future Perspectives in honor of Professor Euclides Pires. 🏆 We would like to thank the organizing committee, the support team, our guests, Museu Nacional de Conímbriga, as well as our sponsors and supporters. 👏
