Retargeting and remarketing are terms often used interchangeably. Although they are indeed similar, there are fundamental differences between them: 1️⃣ They target different users—remarketing solely focuses on re-engaging users who are already in your channels (like email or social media), while retargeting more broadly targets users who have previously interacted with your brand. 2️⃣ They use different channels of communication—retargeting generally involves placing ads on external websites, while remarketing tends to focus on direct communication channels such as emails or push notifications. 3️⃣ They use different kinds of data—remarketing uses explicit data like email addresses from marketing efforts or customer accounts, while retargeting relies on website tags and cookies to show ads.
