The Low Radioactivity Techniques (#LRT2024) workshop took place in Krakow from October 1 to 4. The workshop featured updates from underground laboratories around the globe, as well as the latest information on all aspects of low-background detectors, techniques, and assay programs. The Astrocent team contributed to the event with a posters by Marcin Kuzniak ('Production of GEM-like structures using laser-cutting techniques') and Iftikhar Ahmad ('DarkSide-20k Veto photon-detector units: construction and characterization'). Two new publications have just been released by our team members, highlighting advancements in #quantumtechnology and #machinelearning. 🔬 Dr. Tomasz Rybotycki and colleagues present "Quantum Null-Hypothesis Device-Independent Schmidt Number Witness," published in EPJ Quantum Technology, exploring the dimensionality of bipartite quantum systems. 🤖 Prof. Piotr Gawron and Dr. Rybotycki introduce "AQMLator — An Auto Quantum Machine Learning E-Platform," recently posted on arXiv, which dives into the intersection of quantum computing and machine learning. 📢On September 21 and 22, the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Centrum Astronomiczne im. Mikołaja Kopernika PAN (NCAC PAS), as part of the 28 Warsaw Science Festival and the Seminar for Physics Teachers, is organizing two open events - in person and online! The program includes: ✨popular science lectures; ✨computer demonstrations, including ones on gravitational waves and a virtual journey through the Universe; ✨demonstrations of an amateur radio telescope that can be built in your own kitchen; ✨a booth run by members of the Polish Society of Amateur Astronomers; ✨demonstrations on building spectroscopes using household materials, amateur instruments, photos, and consultations; ✨sunspot observations (weather permitting); ✨Tellurium demonstrations (a mechanical model of the Sun-Earth-Moon system) explaining phenomena such as day and night, seasons, solar eclipses, and lunar occultations; ✨astronomical art classes for children (recommended age: 5-12 years). Prof. Marcin Kuzniak and PhD student Sarthak Choudhary recently presented their work in #darkmatter research at #LIDINE2024 in São Paulo, Brazil. Between July 28th and August 17th, 2023, Franciszek Gniot and Alicja Brzósko, students from Warsaw University of Technology, had the exceptional opportunity to undertake a practical internship with Astrocent/ Centrum Astronomiczne im. Mikołaja Kopernika PAN (NCAC PAS) at CERN, one of the world's foremost centers for scientific research. Under the supervision of Dr. Marcin Ziembicki, they contributed to important tasks, including setting up and commissioning a test stand for multi-PMT modules. New grants at Astrocent/ Centrum Astronomiczne im. Mikołaja Kopernika PAN (NCAC PAS)!🌠 Dr. Michał Olszewski, a member of Research Group 1 led by Prof. Marcin Kuzniak, has been awarded a grant from the NCN National Science Centre in the #Miniatura competition. The project, titled 'Determination of the Sensitivity of the #ARGO, #DarkSide20k, and #DEAP3600 Experiments to Supermassive Charged Gravitinos,' will focus on the work being conducted by the Astrocent team in collaboration with international scientific partners in the search for dark matter. ✨✨✨ Congratulations to Michał, and we wish him great success in implementing the grant!
