East Coast Port Strike Reaches Resolution - Avoid congestion & delays with Atlantic Freight   We are pleased to inform you that the recent strike at East Coast ports has been resolved. The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) have reached a tentative agreement, ending the three-day strike that impacted operations from Maine to Texas, including major ports like New York and Red Hook Terminal.   Key details of the agreement include: • Strike Resolution: The ILA workers are expected to return to work today. • Wage Increases: A robust wage increase of 62% over the next six years has been agreed upon. • Automation Protections: No fully or semi-automated terminals will be introduced on the East or Gulf Coasts for the duration of the six-year contract. • Ongoing Negotiations: While work has resumed, the ILA and USMX will continue to negotiate unresolved issues, with a final contract expected by January 15, 2025. • Potential Delays: As operations ramp back up, there may still be some delays due to the backlog caused by the strike. INDUSTRY UPDATE: NEW SECURITY MEASURES FOR AIR FREIGHT TO CANADA Dear Valued Customers,     At Atlantic Freight, we are committed to providing reliable, compliant freight forwarding services. As your trusted partner, we want to ensure that you are fully informed about the latest regulations concerning air freight destined for Canada. Effective immediately, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has introduced new security measures for shipments bound for Canada. To comply with these updated regulations, the following conditions must be met:    1. Established Business Relationship Requirement: An established business relationship must exist between the Regulated Agent or Freight Forwarder and the Shipper. This is defined as:   i) The Regulated Agent or Freight Forwarder must have completed at least six shipments from the Shipper in the last 90 days.     ii) The business relationship must have been in place for at least 90 days before August 29, 2024, with evidence of an account that includes a physical billing address and documented payment or credit history.     OR:   The Shipper must be approved by local authorities as a known consignor.    2. Declaration Requirement To meet these new security measures, The International Airlines Group (IAG) will require a signed declaration from the Regulated Agent or Freight Forwarder (us) for all freight bound for Canada. This declaration must confirm that the conditions outlined above have been met and must be included with the standard Air Waybill (AWB) documentation.    Freight shipments or pieces within consolidated consignments that do not meet these criteria will be excluded from consolidated shipments tendered to IAG Cargo for airlines such as British Airways, Iberia, or Aer Lingus.    Geographical Rollout: These new regulations will first apply to freight originating from Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). We advise all customers shipping to Canada from these regions to ensure compliance with the new regulations to avoid disruptions.    Option for Blanket Declaration: For convenience, freight forwarders and known consignors may sign a blanket declaration to confirm their ongoing compliance with these conditions.    For more information please follow the BIFA link: https://lnkd.in/eDqPAtnN   We remain committed to staying at the forefront of compliance and security.
