Wikimedia has an internal practice that limits the participation of interns of Google Summer of Code and Outreachy to one edition only. We decided that in order to assure more place for newcomers. The drawback is that we loose good candidates because other organizations will still take them. Also, we are not allowing teams to repeat configuration and to continue working in ongoing projects. Every time we have to onboard new interns for all the slots available. Today, Google has announced a change in their rules: > Effective this year, a person can only participate a maximum of 3 times as a GSoC student in their lifetime. Should we lift our own limitation and use these three years as a reference?
