As a non-WMF MediaWiki user in both enterprise and private practice, I'm interested in the outcome here. My take would be a specific MediaWiki Foundation with contribution from Wikimedia. However, I'm not so sure the current situation is that bad, if bad at all.

FWIW, after I updated the HotCat.js code, it took approximately 2-3 hours before my wiki started working again. I'm not sure why. Maybe there's some caching going on somewhere.

I got this fixed today thanks to marktraceur in the IRC channel. Apparently around Jan. 14th Commons was struck with broken Javascript as well. The HotCat gadget was the cause. Updating my HotCat to the one here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Gadget-HotCat.js fixed my wiki.
Yes, I think it's related to https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T44938 somehow
Problem is still present in 1.25alpha (3bb71d9)

I've updated my wiki to master, upgraded MsCatSelect to master and this problem is still present. I've tried various browsers, cleared browser caches, tried private/incognito browsing and the problem persists.

This bug basically makes MsCatSelect unusable for me. I've recently added hundreds of new Categories in a hierarchy of subcategories and NONE of them are available to the User via MsCatSelect :(

What's in a name, right? Clear, concise, relevant and up to date documentation will make or break this hub regardless of its name. In particular, I'd like to see the examples of interesting uses of the Wikimedia Data through the API highlighted. This would allow for easier marketing of the hub as the examples could be pushed to various technically inclined news sites to both get the project's developer exposure as well as drive traffic to the dev.wikimedia.org hub.
