Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):
- Go to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Microscopic_images_relating_to_biology (a category containing lots of interesting images but also many files and subcategories to go through)
- Click the button "Good Pictures" in the top right
What happens?:
It just shows "Connecting..."
What should have happened instead?:
It should load a wall of images view of good pictures in this cat using some reasonable indicator such as a "Good picture" Commons community assessment.
Software version (on Special:Version page; skip for WMF-hosted wikis like Wikipedia):
Other information (browser name/version, screenshots, etc.):
- I'm using Firefox
- It works for "Quality images" but it loads a bit long and shows a large number for Digging through x files that is much larger than files probably contained in this cat (could be wrong about that though). Edit: it worked twice on that category but now also only shows "Connecting..." after I removed some flawed subcategorizations (see below).
- I think it would be good to cache the results so that if anybody makes the same request at another point within 2 months it doesn't load long but loads it right away (one could then still have a button to make a new request instead if one needs the latest results)
- Depending on the browser zoom level the Advanced button that shows "Quality images" and so on is not clickable at some areas of the button...one has to hover over the top right of the dropdown button for the mouse to turn into a clicker. That's not really an issue so I'm just mentioning this.
- Edit: I found some inappropriate subcategories containing images using the Quality images view and removed / moved them accordingly. However, if that is/was the issue it should a) not just display "Connecting..." but an error or something else b) probably just scan up to some level of subcats. I had this issue for all categories I tried this button on so far so this is the rule, not the exception.
