Now it looks like the focus on the search field doesn't go away! On a normal tap-in-field highlight, the highlight will go away after clicking on a page. Possibly the highlight should go away after the search is performed in all cases.

That's true anyway I think that overriding the function should work fine in any device... that pull reaquest was closed cause it contained another wrong patch ( a cherry pick would be appreciated ^^ ) ... reopened here anyway, no problem: https://github.com/wikimedia/WikipediaMobile/pull/123 ^^ someone could try on nexus S? On my devices works...
