This is still an issue, I tested it on Firefox 33.1, Chrome 39.0.2171.71 m and Internet Explorer 11
Is this really a bug of SVG rendering. Consider SVG is not a WYSIWYG tool. Used space by letters depends on font rendering. Wikimedia uses font hinting which results in rounding letter position to pixel scale.
You seem to use three letter groups but put in one text element. Use a text element for each letter group.
Does this solve your problem?
...plus the problem even exists looking at the SVG itself at https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/37/Genetic_code.svg in Firefox 44...
