Use Wikidata statements to build infoboxes
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

  • Automatically add pictures from Wikidata to Wikipedia via Infobox templates
  • Use {{Wikidata infobox}} to automatically build an adapted "default" infobox

Event Timeline

I am trying to investigate how the "Wikidata Infobox" could be used on Wikipedia as a default Infobox, if no other more specific infobox would be required.

Therefore I have replicated the wp.en Wikidata Infobox Template and its dependencies to test.wikipedia.org:

  • Module:Wikidata2
  • Module:WikidataIB
  • Module:WikidataIB/nolinks
  • Template:If
  • Template:Ifcategory
  • Template:BaseLang
  • Template:Wikidata Infobox
  • Template:Wikidata Infobox/core
  • Template:Wikidata Infobox/line
  • Template:Wikidata Infobox/styles.css

Can anybody understand why this infobox stays empty, while there are no (visible) errors reported...

It would be nice if someone could list here specific documentation how to implement a new data driven infobox on Wikipedia.

Hi Geert,

You are working on the test environment, so also on test.wikidata.org. The test wikidata is by no means a copy of the live wikidata. That goes for QID's and for properties.
Your QID is not available there and the properties the script looks for, are referring to totally different properties, if they even exist. I got trapped in the same pitfall once.

I think it might be useful if the community would have a test environment that matches closely to the live environment, but for instance a month old or just with a subset of QID's. It would be handy if Q42 gives data of Douglas Adams, even if they would not be exactly the information Wikidata Live gives, and if P31 would not suddenly be a 'website'.

There is a rudimentary Wikidatadriven infobox available on the Dutch Wikipedia and a more elaborated one on the French. Please have a look there.
