"Open Page Curation" should become "Close Page Curation" as soon as you click on it
Closed, DeclinedPublicFeature

Description

The "Open Page Curation" link under "Tools" in the navigation bar on the left should automatically become "Close Page Curation" immediately after you click on it. Although it currently does not appear when the toolbar loads while loading a page, we could also make the "Close Page Curation" link appear initially in that case.

Hey tagging Community-Tech for awareness.

Mentioning a project tag in a comment won't notify anyone watching that project tag (if that was your intention).

I appreciate the awareness building. However, we are not the owners of the Curation Feed or NPP and those related features.

We do currently have a wish from the most recent Wishlist Survey that asks us to do some work on this set of features. We cannot take on the burden of maintenance for the feature at large. I wouldn't want the presence of our team's tag to mislead someone into thinking that we will tackle this work.

We might potentially bake this work into the wish we will work on but that is a call for @Niharika to make as the Product Manager for this wish. I'll leave the tag on for now but that shouldn't be considered as a commitment from us to work on this task.

Copying over what I wrote in T217221: NewPagesFeed filter request: accepted AfC drafts:

Thanks @JTannerWMF! Feel free to leave these project tickets on PageTriage board and I'll pull them in to the Community-Tech board when they are prioritized.

Removing task assignee due to inactivity, as this open task has been assigned for more than two years (see emails sent to assignee on May26 and Jun17, and T270544). Please assign this task to yourself again if you still realistically [plan to] work on this task - it would be very welcome!

(See https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Bug_management/Assignee_cleanup for tips how to best manage your individual work in Phabricator.)

This patch/ticket might be obsolete. I can't find #t-curationtoolbar in the rendered HTML at all, and I don't see an "Open Page Curation" link in my toolbox using Vector 2010 skin. Finding this is necessary to even test the submitted patch above.

Can someone subscribed to this ticket who remembers where this Open Page Curation link is supposed to be confirm that it's currently missing? Or explain in detail how I can find it if I'm just being blind? Thank you.

Note to self: May need to submit a new patch to repair or remove the dead code.

@Novem_Linguae

  1. Go to a page where the toolbar is shown.
  2. Click 'minimize' (topmost button) in the toolbar.
  3. Then click close (x) in the toolbar.
  4. There should now be a link called "Open Page Curation" in the left part of the page, at the bottom of the Tools section.

After soaking this patch in, I am leaning towards marking this as wontfix. The current behavior seems fine. The current behavior is:

  • To open the toolbar, click the "Open Page Curation link in left menu. Only appears when the toolbar is closed.
  • To close the toolbar, click the >| button at the top of the toolbar, then click the little X at the top of the mini-toolbar. This closes the toolbar and creates an "Open Page Curation" link.

Instead, the "Open Page Curation" link will disappear altogether following T320922.
