IOM’s intervention led to reconciliation, peace, and stabilization in the Galeboka community in Jiwaka province. As part of its intervention, IOM built gender-segregated toilets 🚻 and provided shelter tool kits, promoting transition to recovery efforts. 📢 Following the Enga landslide, IOM continues to provide crucial food aid to affected families. From 9-11 July, we distributed essential supplies to 121 households, bringing the total number of households reached with food rations to 800 (approximately 4,000 individuals) supported by USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance Each ration, including rice, tin fish, cooking oil, sugar, and iodized salt, offers vital relief for up to a month. #HumanitarianAid #EngaLandslide #IOMResponds USAID , USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance , United Nations in Papua New Guinea

IOM hosted a ceremony at Hardware Haus in Port Moresby to honour the Government of Japan's generous support for the Mulitaka landslide response. The event featured representatives from the Embassy of Japan in Papua New Guinea, Ministry Defence , United Nations, and the National Disaster Centre. Their collaboration is crucial in providing relief to over 2,000 disaster-affected people, including essential services such as food, water, and shelter.  We are grateful to all our partners for their unwavering support in the recovery process. 🌍 With crucial support from USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance , IOM - UN Migration has successfully distributed non-food items (NFIs) and shelter kits to 250 families displaced by landslides in Enga. IOM - UN Migration, Morobe Provincial Disaster Centre, and the United States Institute of Peace jointly delivered a training in Displacement Tracking Matrix in Lae on 24-26 April 2024. This week IOM, with the financial support of the Japanese Government is conducting a 4 day in-person training for 30 border officials from ICSA, Customs and NAQIA stationed at points of entries in Port Moresby, Vanimo, Buka, Kieta, Daru and Lae. The purpose of the training is to build the capacity of border officials on border control and management, public health regulations at border cross points.

Last week IOM conducted workshops on looking at Strategic Planning at Border Points of Entry to PNG. Workshops also discussed findings from baseline assessments that IOM conducted at seven border points around the country. Participants in the workshops included PNG Defence Force, ICSA, Customs, DPLGA, CASA and PNG Ports. Workshops were facilitated by IOM experts on border management and public health, and were made possible through the support of the Japanese Government.
