ethstats funziona analizzando il file /proc/net/dev mantenuto dal kernel Linux e perciò utilizza una quantità trascurabile di tempo CPU. ethstats mostra il volume di dati passati da ciascun device sia in megabit per secondo sia in pacchetti per secondo.
