Meet Philip, a 71-year-old grandfather of nine from Papua New Guinea who joined one of World Vision’s Savings for Transformation Groups and saw remarkable changes in his life. Originally from Central Bougainville, Philip led a simple life focused on traditional farming and fishing. When World Vision Papua New Guinea introduced the Savings for Transformation programme in his area and offered skill training, Philip's life took a turn for the better. Philip learned essential skills that enabled him to invest 200 chicks and start a poultry farm. His business began to flourish, and he later expanded it into a general trading store, benefiting his entire community. Philip is proud of his success and says that it's proof that you can achieve your dreams, no matter your age. Together with the NZ Aid Programme, we are helping children and families in the Pacific and South East Asia to overcome poverty, violence, and malnutrition with programmes like Savings for Transformation. 🌍 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐡: 𝐀 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝐔𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚 ✈️ Over the past 17 years, I’ve embarked on countless trips with World Vision, but this journey stands out. This time, I have the unique opportunity to bring along my oldest son, Everest, who is 16. 🌟 Everest is a thoughtful and reflective young man, and sharing this experience with him means the world to me. It’s a chance to show him firsthand what I’ve been dedicating my life to and to pass on some of the incredible blessings and experiences I’ve had. From connecting with people across diverse cultures and places to witnessing resilience in the face of adversity, my work has expanded my horizons and enriched my life. I believe that these connections not only make our world bigger but also deepen our understanding and compassion. I feel truly blessed to share this perspective and these experiences with Everest, the World Vision team, and the communities in Northern Uganda. 🙏 Stay tuned for more updates and highlights from our trip over the next few weeks! #WorldVision #FamilyJourney #HumanitarianWork #CulturalExchange #FatherAndSon #UgandaTrip #Leadership #GlobalConnections #MakingADifference

Right now, kids in Odupi in Uganda are living in the toughest of circumstances. Many families don’t have enough food, and some children are forced to work or get married, stopping them from going to school. Many refugee children who have fled South Sudan have faced the trauma of losing family members and witnessing conflict no child should ever see. World Vision is working with communities in Odupi to break the cycle of poverty and build a brighter future, with nutritious food, safety, and education. 🙏 We’re teaming up with Rhema to help give kids in Odupi hope for the future. 📝 The latest Trafficking in Persons report shows that New Zealand needs to do more to address trafficking and modern slavery. The annual report assesses how well countries are responding to people trafficking and says New Zealand does not meet the minimum standards, but ranks with the likes of Qatar, Pakistan and Senegal. It highlights the ongoing challenges in eliminating trafficking and the work still needed to tackle modern slavery here in Aotearoa New Zealand. Key concerns identified: ✖️ Limited prosecutions, especially in labour trafficking. ✖️ Child trafficking definition remains inconsistent with international law. ✖️ No process to identify trafficking victims and limited support services available. ✖️ Weak reporting and response systems. World Vision New Zealand continues to call for an urgent amendment to laws to align our child trafficking definition with international standards. This will strengthen our ability to identify and address child trafficking offenses. 📢 Learn more about the report here or learn more about our work to address child trafficking in New Zealand here: https://lnkd.in/gfFar8-a. #EndTrafficking #ProtectChildren #ModernSlavery #WorldVisionNZ

🚨 World Vision says this week’s missile attack on a children’s hospital in Kyiv, Ukraine is a wake-up call to the world. The war in Ukraine continues to take a devastating toll on children, with more than 600 killed and 1,300 injured. World Vision’s Deputy Response Director for Ukraine, Eka Zhyania, says it is not acceptable for children to be caught up in war in this way. “There are no words that can describe how this war in Ukraine is bringing innocent children and civilians to a spiral of misery and suffering. It is tragic to witness the situation”, she says. World Vision and partners are providing psychosocial support to those affected, including the survivors, hospital staff and volunteers. You can help support children and families affected by the war in Ukraine by texting RESPOND to 5055 to donate $3 or visit the link to learn more: wvnz.org.nz/ukraine.

“I didn’t start out with much. Whatever money I’ve earned in life, it’s all come from God. Really, I’m only the steward of that money. I don’t regard it as mine. There are lots of people who need it, and I feel it should be used to help them. “World Vision makes it easy for me to do good things for people – things that I couldn’t do myself," says James. James has included a gift in his Will for World Vision as a natural extension of his love and the deep values and beliefs he holds. Right now, you have the opportunity to write your will online for free, thanks to our trusted partner, Footprint, learn more here: https://lnkd.in/g6KYq34r.

World Vision is calling on the New Zealand government to lead from the front and contribute more to Overseas Development Assistance. This is an investment and not a handout. It helps to create the kind of world we all want to see - one which respects the lives and rights of all people, promotes democracy, progresses sustainable development, and advances global safety and security. In challenging economic times, it can be tempting to turn inward and focus solely on domestic challenges, but as crises compound globally, it is more important than ever that New Zealand acts as a global leader. Please read this Newsroom NZ article in which World Vision New Zealand National Director,Grant Bayldon, talks about why an increase in Overseas Development Assistance is so important. https://lnkd.in/es2YGcuU

⚠️ It has been just over a month since a devastating landslide wiped out the Enga Province in Papua New Guinea leaving hundreds dead and many thousands homeless. The land is still unstable and those who have lost their homes are living in temporary shelters and struggling to get enough food and safe drinking water. World Vision is working with other aid agencies to provide these vital necessities, but World Vision New Zealand’s Hannele Tulkki-Williams, who is currently based in PNG, says it will take a long time for the community to fully recover. You can help children in PNG recover and build a strong future. Visit the link to donate: https://lnkd.in/g4-xSkAM.
