Working to create a sustainable future for everyone

About us

Since 1998, Waiheke Resources Trust (WRT) has been at the forefront of sustainable living initiatives, offering a range of resources, education, and services that support a healthier, more sustainable future for our community. A well-established sustainability trust and member of Environmental Hubs of Aotearoa, WRT is based at the Sustainability Centre and operates across Te Motur Arai-roa | Waiheke Island Tīkapa Moana | Hauraki Gulf. We seek to create transformational change through community collaboration and development, working to celebrate and protect the resources of the island. Our staff work to support thriving environments and communities by engaging and supporting people in environmental restoration, food resilience and waste minimisation. We collaborate with volunteers, interns, local business, national and regional networks, iwi, government bodies, subject experts and Waiheke whānau to get the job done. We believe that when environments are healthy and communities are connected, people and wildlife can flourish, and within that community a strong economy can exist. WRT has been a NZ Registered Charity since 30 June 2008. Registration number CC34108.

Safeguard our Future Campaign Launches today! 🌍 Our efforts to protect the environment and support resilient communities are making a real difference, but Environment Hubs around NZ face large funding cuts, jeopardising our collective impact. Our 21 member hubs across the motu are building a future where communities are equipped to face environmental challenges, where our children live in harmony with nature, and where sustainable living is the norm. For the month of November, we’re raising funds to continue this vital and positive work. We’re asking you to donate, pledge support, or become a partner, and share with all your networks far and wide! 📢 Your support for this campaign will ensure that Environment Hubs Aotearoa can continue to lead the charge in building sustainable, resilient communities across New Zealand. With financial resources, we can continue our efforts to restore nature, combat climate change, and equip future generations with the tools they need to thrive. By supporting this campaign, you are investing in the future of Aotearoa New Zealand.  Let’s safeguard the future together! 🌱 https://lnkd.in/g-VWTE7N #safeguardourfuture #environmenthubsaotearoa #donatetoday

  • Our Composting team have been studying hard! Thanks to a $300 grant from Compost Collective, Yossi and Mike have completed the Growing Point compost course, enhancing their skills in soil microbiology. 🌱🔬 They explored the vital roles of bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and nematodes in transforming dirt into nutrient-rich soil. With their new insights into the soil food web and advanced composting techniques, they’re ready to support our community! A huge shoutout to Compost Collective for making this opportunity possible! 🙌
