About us

We come to work everyday to help foster a positive learning journey for everyone. Kami was developed in Aotearoa, New Zealand by four university friends who decided to make a difference. Ten years later, we’ve grown into a team of over 100 Kami-leons with a shared goal of supporting classroom heroes and leveling the playing field so that all students, no matter their age, grade, or ability, can love learning. We’re proud to have been named one of Time magazine’s most influential companies in 2022 and included in the Deloitte Fast 50 as the fastest growing company and fastest growing exporter in 2021. Our investors include leading Australian venture capitalist firm Right Click Capital, CapitalPitch, New Zealand-based Flying Kiwi Angels, New Zealand Venture Investment Fund, and notable Silicon Valley investors such as Sam Altman of Y Combinator and Scott Nolan of Founders Fund. Our Team: We believe that having a dedicated, enthusiastic, and non-hierarchical team can achieve remarkable things — we’re well on-track to proving it, too. Our company culture embraces diversity, compassion, transformation, and most importantly, fun! With these values, we're working to add a little magic to education so that teachers and students can achieve so much more together. We thrive in an encouraging environment where people can share ideas, generate solutions, and grow. Join us in building the future of education. Get in touch at [email protected], we’d love to hear from you!

Dwight Jones, president of Education Practice and Policy Partners, suggests leaders tackling the opportunity gap in education should "put their ladder on the right wall." Educators are often asked to do much more than teach the curriculum, often forcing them to lose focus on the core skills students require. Jones insists the "right wall [for leaders] is the one that improves [student] literacy, fosters strong instruction, and guarantees teachers are supported." We invite you to share your insights: What, in your view, is the most common expectation that is wrongly imposed on teachers? Your comments are valuable in fostering a diverse discussion on this topic!

MaryEllen Elia, former New York State Commissioner of Education, says students aren't considering teaching because "they're hearing from their teachers how difficult it is." Although the COVID-19 pandemic did affect teacher recruitment and retention, the problem is not "brand-new" and is a "core issue that we need to address." What do you think is the best way to encourage young people to consider a career in teaching?

Recently, we visited schools in the Little Rock area to speak with school leaders and teachers to learn about the needs of teachers and students and preview the New World of Kami. After a tour of the super impressive Little Rock Southwest Magnet High, we took a quick pic to capture the moment. From left to right: Vicki Hatter (LRSD Board Member), Todd Bloom (Kami CLO), Mike Poore (former LRSD Superintendent and current Kami Advisory Group member), Shanda Macon, M.Ed. (Academy Coach over CTE), and Meagan Markerson Wiethorn, M.Ed. (Kami Account Executive).
