Proper Crisps NZ & Australia

On 5th February 2023 Cyclone Gabrielle devastated Northlands Kūmara Crops causing a nationwide supply shortage. We're in awe of our growers and their resilience over the last year to re-build and continue on despite losing 99% of their 2023 harvest. We teamed up with Storybites to capture the harvest of new season kūmara and to celebrate our first delivery of kūmara that has allowed us to begin cooking Kūmara Crisps again. A huge thanks to Ant at Kaipara Kumara and Doug Nilsson for sharing their story and opening up their farm and factory to the awesome crew at Storybites. Our golden potato 🥔 bigger cut crisps have bagged two golds and a silver at this year’s Outstanding Food Producer’s Awards 2024. Kind of like the Oscars for food but no acting was required. Our purple and gold were deemed “elevated simplicity” and our dill pickle, “stand alone as a modern, adult alternative to salt & vinegar”. We Won. Our team, check out those cute crisp t-shirts, collected both prizes - People's Choice and Most Creative, hey we make a mean crisp so of course we make great crispmas decorations too! That makes it official, Crispmas Trees from now on!

The floods at the start of the year had a huge impact on many Kiwis - not news to any of us - and our Kumara farmers lost their crops. Proper's Kumara Crisps are our No. 3 SKU, and we knew we had to do something to hold our space in store - for our farmers and our fans. Our ANZ Commercial Manager, Duncan had a plan, and we all made it happen — a Sweet Potato Switcharoo, made by our Proper team, properly in our Yarra Factory, instead. While we never claim crisps/chips or salty snacks are healthy, we do use minimal and really real ingredients crafted under the watchful eye of our Proper Chefs. The aim is utterly delicious. By doing it properly our crisps are healthier, naturally. That’s Proper!
