In Case You Missed It: On the eve of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, our colleagues at UNESCO launched a ‘Social Impact of Sport Report’ along with a ‘Sport and Gender Equality Game Plan’ at their #ChangeTheGame Forum. Reflecting on the event, Secretary General Lisa O'Keefe MBE said: “Having a multi-stakeholder global sports conference on this scale is so important in the push towards gender equality and equity within sport, and a huge thanks to UNESCO for driving this work forwards… "...It was also great to see the publication of their ‘Sport and Gender Equality Game Plan’ which serves to highlight the on-going gender gap within sport and provides some excellent tools and examples of best practice to address these inequalities. We had a great meeting with Sukhdev Hans, Head of the Women In Sports Branch at the National Sports Council of Malaysia, last week. Sukhdev updated us on their 5 -Year Women In Sports Action Plan (2021-2025) which aims to encourage more women to participate in sports initiatives. It was a great opportunity to exchange learnings and experiences, and we are looking forward to sharing this with our IWG network soon 😀

Our recent Women in Sport discussion event, hosted in collaboration with the British Embassy Paris and UK Sport, offered the opportunity for leaders from across the sport sector to meet, connect and share insights. Held during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the event was opened by Dame Menna Rawlings, His Majesty's Ambassador to France. The panel discussion was facilitated by IWG Women & Sport Chair Annamarie Phelps CBE OLY, with speakers Sir Bill Beaumont GBE DL, Chair of World Rugby, Sally Horrox, Chief of Women’s Rugby at World Rugby, and Aurélie Groizeleau, former rugby international and current referee at FFR - Fédération Française de Rugby. Following the panel discussion, Sabrina Ibáñez (she/her/hers), Secretary General for the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI), presented on the importance of inclusive leadership in sport. Women in Sport's award-winning programme Big Sister is being rolled out nationwide across the UK. Designed to address the drop-off in sports and activity participation during girls' teenage years, the programmed offers discounted leisure centre access, access to girls-only classes and training for staff to understand girls' needs.

IWG Women & Sport would like to extend our sincere thanks to His Majesty's Ambassador Dame Menna Rawlings and the British Embassy Paris for hosting the successful 'Women in Sport' event, and collaborators UK Sport. During the Paris 2024 Olympics 🔥 , IWG Women & Sport hosted the ‘Women In Sport’ Panel Discussion at the British Ambassador’s Residence. ENGSO EWS Chair Tarja Krum, former Chair Sallie Barker and EWS Committee member Sarah Townsend participated in the event. Later in the day, Tarja and Sarah also attended the Pride House event. The event was moderated by the IWG Women & Sport UK Secretariat Chair Annamarie Phelps CBE OLY, and included guest speakers Sally Horrox, Director of Women’s Rugby at World Rugby, Sir Bill Beaumont GBE DL, Chairman of World Rugby, Aurélie Groizeleau, Referee French Rugby, and Sabrina Ibáñez (she/her/hers), FEI Secretary General.
