I am deeply honoured to introduce and share Fonterra’s first Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). This plan marks a pivotal moment in our reconciliation journey across our Australian business. It will support us as we continue to enhance our understanding of, and respect for the rich cultural heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We are an organisation with a purpose to empower people to create goodness for generations, and in Australia, those generations date back thousands of years. That depth of history is nothing short of remarkable. It’s a history and culture that we care deeply for at Fonterra, and we are committed to enhancing our understanding of the lands, waters and communities that we operate in, and acknowledging those who have cared and nourished the continent for millennia. It is their knowledge and perspectives that can inspire innovation and growth within our organisation.
Our Reflect RAP focuses on building strong foundations through relationships, respect, and opportunities and will be implemented over the next 18 months. It creates measurable outcomes to guide us in creating an environment where all voices are heard and respected.
Recently, I was joined by colleagues, team members and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander guests for a launch event on the lawns outside our office on Woiwurrung land. It was a special event – it was warm, welcoming and deeply connected to country. It is these feelings, now enabled by our RAP, that will see us create meaningful impact on our reconciliation journey for years to come.
My thanks go to Thane Garvey-Gannaway and Ganga Giri for a heartwarming ceremony, to Nakia Cadd for creating such a beautiful artwork to reflect Fonterra's journey, and to Reconciliation Australia for providing their guidance and endorsement.
A special thanks to those volunteers who have commenced the work on our Reflect RAP actions, including Matt Watt (Co-Chair), Elizabeth Bardwell (Co-Chair), Ambrose Mpofu, Hugo Butterfield, Lucy Collins, Melissa Apap, Michelle S., Paul Winfield, Rod Jones, Virginia Lakos, Fortina Di Marzio, Nicola Smyth, Andrew Westlake, and Karen Werner.
