Looking after your mental health and wellbeing is always important, but it’s been great to give it some extra visibility as part of Mental Health Awareness Week. This week, we got the coloured pencils out and encouraged our people to spend some quiet time colouring in as a way to relax and be more present in the moment. Teams also took up a challenge to do something together for their collective wellbeing – our winning team will be sharing a morning tea shout for their great idea to use a clay modelling session as a way to unwind together. And yesterday we put on some kai and shared some great mental health tips for actively prioritising and nurturing our mental health. Connection and togetherness are important parts of DB’s culture, and we recently brought together nearly 400 of our people from across the country for our company conference. This year’s conference was hosted in Te Whanganui a Tara Wellington at the stunning Harbourside function venue. We talked about our strategy and aspirations and the culture we need to get there. We also inducted two DB Legends – Neville Corlett and Peter Crawshaw. The Alternative Commentary Collective’s Mike Lane co-hosted the day and kept the exec team’s PowerPoints moving at a lively pace. And, of course, we rounded out the day with trade visits to some of our vibrant Star Hospitality venues, followed by dinner and socialising at Foxglove.

We’re super proud of our General Counsel Karyn O'Loughlin who is a finalist in the 2024 NZ Law Excellence Awards, in the In-House Lawyer of the Year category. Karyn has been with DB for seven years and has made a huge contribution to our business in that time. A very well-deserved achievement for a highly valued team member and we wish Karyn all the best for awards night on 28 November.

A great way to end a great day. Around 30 new DB employees rounded out our latest induction day with a Heineken 0.0, hot chips and a quiz on everything they’d learnt about our business, culture and the ancient art of brewing beer. Induction days are also a chance to hear from our leaders about their own careers, as well as learn about the incredible career opportunities available in Aotearoa, around the APAC region and the world. It’s Conservation Week so we couldn’t think of a better moment to announce the publication of our 2023 Sustainability Report. The full report is available on our website and below are some highlights of what we achieved in 2023 that we’re really proud of: 🚗 We increased the proportion of hybrid vehicles in our sales fleet from 71% in 2022 to 93% in 2023. 🌊 We commissioned our onsite wastewater treatment plant at our DB Draught site in Timaru, reaching our goal of treating 100% of our wastewater before returning it to the environment. 🚮 We activated a circular economy solution at DB Draught, composting the wastewater treatment by-product and keeping it out of landfill. 🌈 Our employee wellbeing, diversity, equality and inclusion program, WholeMe, is being rolled out across other HEINEKEN operations. 🍃 We have reduced our production-related carbon emissions by 45% since 2018 without using offsets. 👩🎓 In partnership with Life Education Trust, we reached 21,393 students across 96 schools with our industry alcohol education programme, SMASHED. https://lnkd.in/gG9Wkf-6
