Meet Ārohia Trailblazer, Basis NZ! ⭐   Basis has developed the world's first residential smart panel – designed to replace the old-school switchboard. It enables homeowners to reduce their electricity costs, make their homes dramatically safer and lower barriers to adopting Electric Vehicles, home batteries and solar panels.   Their technology has the potential to disrupt the energy and electrical ecosystem by creating opportunities around electricity usage data and insights. Their innovation could reduce costs by up to 25% per kg, driving demand for green hydrogen and helping to cut emissions. 🚀 Hot on the heels of unveiling our GovGPT pilot at the AI Summit last month, and with the immense interest it generated, Callaghan Innovation hosted an insightful webinar yesterday! 🌟 We took a behind-the-scenes look at the tool’s development and explored the broader possibilities for AI in government and its future in Aotearoa New Zealand. The event featured an amazing panel discussion with Stefan Korn, Vanessa Sorenson, Nyssa Waters, and Emma Bessey (Barrett), moderated by AI Summit’s Madeline Newman. Plus, there was a dynamic Q&A session with the Callaghan Innovation team, who impressively developed the pilot in just 6 weeks! 🤯 With over 600 online attendees and 40 more packing the room at our Textile Factory Auckland office, it’s clear there’s a huge interest in seeing how AI can simplify access to government information and boost the capabilities of Aotearoa New Zealand’s companies. Though it’s still a pilot, GovGPT will be open to the public for testing later this month. It’s been a week since the Aerospace New Zealand Summit, and we’re still buzzing! 🚀 Throughout the summit, it was incredible to see more than 700 passionate individuals, innovators, and industry leaders gather in Otautahi Christchurch, to explore the future of aerospace in Aotearoa. The summit featured insightful panel discussions on alternative funding routes beyond venture capital, an impressive showcase of talent during the startup pitch sessions, and valuable opportunities for networking. Highlights for us included hearing from Astrix Astronautics, one of the Ārohia Trailblazer recipients, about how the grant will support their work on reliable high-performance power systems for satellites. We also loved hearing from Auckland Uni student and CEO of OutThere Astronautics Alexandar Majstorović, whom we sponsored to attend. Alex made an impression in Christchurch, winning The People’s Choice award for his pitch, and earnt himself a ticket to next year’s Summit! Our Callaghan Innovation team were truly inspired by the talent and creativity driving the aerospace industry.
