Now with a demonstrably stable formulation, our portfolio company TheiaNova Limited is progressing towards first in human trials. We are very excited by their progress. #restoreeyesight #ophthalmology #Innovation #biologics #nonsurgicalsolutions
TheiaNova is creating a novel eyedrop treatment for patients living with keratoconus - here's how it works 👇 🌏 Our world first solution combines human growth factor TGF-B3 and low-dose steroid dexamethasone to develop a painless and non-invasive treatment targeting keratoconus. 👁️ The treatment, a patented eyedrop, aims to regenerate collagen in the cornea over a twice daily, three-week application period. 💪The treatment is expected to rebuild the collagen matrix in the cornea that has broken down due to keratoconus. 🔗 By regenerating the lost collagen in the cornea, our treatment has the potential to restore the cornea's structural integrity and rigidity. There are millions of people living with KC world-wide, and a group of ophthalmologists and optometrists here in NZ at the bottom of the globe are working to change their lives forever. Important: TheiaNova's products are not yet approved for clinical use in any jurisdiction. #keratoconus #ophthalmology #optometry #eyedrops #pharma #startup

Our incredible intern Sofie Mulligan showcased her leadership skill in bringing together a group of undergraduate women in leadership to talk about what it takes to lead and be successful in business. We see this as important work in growing the next generation of leaders and bringing different perspectives to into the business world. A topic close to our heart, and Bridgewest Ventures was happy to support Sofie's mahi, with Darja Nelson leading a session on communication and pitching. 3 takeaways from that night about the next generation of start-up founders and business leaders: 😨 Pitching to a room of 30 savvy 20 year olds is more nerve-wrecking than pitching to a room full of investors. 🤲 Every woman in the room had a purpose driven story for her interest in business that motivated them outside of financial return. 🧠 None of the women in the room really knew what imposter syndrome was. Lets keep it that way.
UAWB Leadership Skills Workshop On Tuesday, 7th May, UAWB hosted its Leadership Skills Event, led by Director of Leadership Sofie Mulligan and Director of Connect Aysun Kokcu, with Connect Associate Danielle Ouwehand to support. There were 30 attendees, excluding representatives from notable companies such as Bloomberg, Bridgewest Ventures, and Canva. The event comprised three stations, the first about decision-making, led by Bloomberg. The second station was about effective communication, facilitated by Bridgewest Ventures. The third station was about personal branding, led by Canva. The event garnered enthusiastic feedback from participants, who appreciated engaging directly with company representatives and receiving personalised feedback. Special thanks to Sofie Mulligan, Aysun Kokcu, and Danielle Ouwehand for their exceptional organisation, as well as to James Preston (Bloomberg), Joseph Tristram (Bloomberg) Darja Nelson (Bridgewest Ventures), and Lucille Tachet (Canva) for their invaluable contributions to the event's success.

Well we had a busy two weeks of events. The ecosystem is humming! Thanks Creative HQ, WellingtonNZ and Climate Salad for an inspiring #ClimateTechSummit on Thursday 20th June. It was jam packed full of insights and inspiration. 💥 Some major takeaways from an investor's perspective 💥 💚 New Zealanders are on a mission to be part of the global solution for reducing carbon emissions and adapting to accelerated climate change. 💚 NZ Climate Tech companies have raised more than $500M to date are they are looking to raise $440M within the next year! Thanks to Phil Anderson from Callaghan Innovation for the pulse check! 💚 Lachlan Nixon of Motion Capital has been doing some amazing work to push forward funding pathways for early stage ventures. We agree that decarbonisation is a huge opportunity for New Zealand and the innovation coming out of the sector here is world class. 💚 Great insights from Sean Simpson, James Palmer, Maria Jose (MJ) Alvarez and Doug Parker on capital raising. Did you know that Lanza Tech raised $250M before it had revenue?! Photo of Kate de Ridder, Sarah Park and Melissa Yiannoutsos catching up at the networking event after.
