Aquila Capital is diversifying the portfolio of our clean energy funds by integrating investments in battery energy storage systems (BESS). Our BESS investments are complementary to the producing clean energy assets like solar PV or wind energy since they balance energy supply and demand.  𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: BESS can discharge during peak demand to regulate and stabilise the grid and charge during low consumption to reduce energy costs  𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: Falling battery cost and lower lithium prices make BESS increasingly affordable   𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹: Opportunities in ancillary services, grid balancing and electricity market optimisation boost BESS revenue and diversify renewable portfolios We are proud to contribute to the global energy transition while providing sustainable investment opportunities for our clients. Aquila Group is proud to share that our data centre business AQ Compute - Data Centers has started construction works on its second data centre complex, located in Barcelona.  After the first site near Oslo commenced commercial operations in February 2024, the company is further expanding its presence in Europe. The new facility is designed as a campus with independent buildings that are powered by renewable energy and combine 60 MW capacity.   We are convinced that data centres need to be as sustainable as possible, powered by clean energies, while providing computing power for the Cloud and energy-intensive AI applications.   Find out more in AQ Compute's press release: https://lnkd.in/ea-5x_xe   #AquilaGroup #AQCompute #datacenters

From classroom to clean energy! Happy to share a recent initiative from our team at 20MW Triwa wind park in Kepno, Poland. Nine Siemens Gamesa turbines combine 20 MW capacity of renewable energy production and recently played host to 24 curious minds and 2 dedicated teachers. ABO Wind, our Technical and Commercial Manager, joined in, alongside three representatives from Siemens Gamesa, for a special Earth Day visit, where children delved into the world of renewable energy and wind turbine operations. Under careful supervision, they even got to explore the ground level of these towering marvels. Inspiring the next generation, one turbine at a time!   #CleanEnergy #WindPower #EarthDay #AquilaCapital

At the recent BAI Alternative Investor Conference 2024, Max Sergelius, Team Head Product Legal at Aquila Capital, joined a panel of industry experts to discuss the topic "Infrastructure – An Overview of German Fund Structures and Comparison of Tax and Regulatory Advantages and Disadvantages." Max and fellow panellists discussed recent changes in the infrastructural fund landscape at both German and European levels, including the German “Infrastruktursondervermögen” and the recent reform of the European Long-Term Investment Fund (ELTIF 2.0). Max highlighted different structuring options for institutional funds as well as retail funds, using our recently launched AC One Planet ELTIF as a prime example. Against the background of vast investment needs on the one hand and high interest rates and the need of institutional investors in particular to (re-)balance their portfolios on the other hand, leveraging retail fund formats like ELTIF in order to broaden the investor base is an exciting opportunity for the financing of infrastructure assets. The panel engaged in a fruitful discussion on regulatory and tax matters and pitfalls. In summary, there is clearly a lot of excitement in the market about the new structuring possibilities in particular for retail offerings. Comparing the structural alternatives, the European ELTIF format offers more flexibility than its German counterpart “Infrastruktursondervermögen”. On the tax side, for institutional funds a need to harmonise/improve cumbersome German taxation rules was identified, whilst tax incentives for retail investors would be an effective tool to channel retail money into much needed infrastructure investments. Last but not least managers looking to launch an ELTIF should pay close attention to the still rather limited settlement options in the German market which may pose a challenge from an operational perspective. To counteract climate change, the buildout of clean energies must be significantly accelerated. To do our part, Aquila Group aims to lead by example, contributing to the energy transition in a substantial way. We are happy to share our progress in our 2023 Sustainability Report.   By 2035, we aim to avoid 1.5bn tonnes of CO2e through our group-wide portfolio – which is equivalent to the current fossil fuel emissions for electricity generation in Europe or 4 % of the total 2021 worldwide CO2e emissions. In 2023 our LAE measurement shows that our clean energy portfolio has the potential to avoid 130m tonnes of CO2e over its lifetime. This represents the equivalent the current coal emissions for electricity generation in Germany, highlighting that we are well on our way.   Read more about our sustainability commitment and our progress in the full report: https://lnkd.in/e5nzeaYG   #sustainability #AquilaGroup #LAE #ESG

Aquila Capital’s timber asset management team recently visited our forestry properties Te Rata and Waitanga, located on the Northern Island of New Zealand. We continuously engage with our local partners, this time supervising current harvesting operations and assessing the growth rate of new plantings. Regular site visits are necessary to execute proper asset management and to ensure the performance of our investments. #AquilaCapital #AssetManagement #TimberInvestments

"Investments in clean energies have rarely been more attractive." Looking at the current market situation, which is characterised by political and economic disruptions, a unique and long-term opportunity for clean energy investments becomes apparent. Markus Wandt, CIO Aquila Capital and Moritz Paysen, Head Corporate Hedging, are contextualising market developments such as high inflation, rising interest rates, CO2-certificate prices, energy prices and climate change. Analysing the findings and presenting potential forecasts, Markus and Moritz are evaluating the impact of these market dynamics on the viability and growth trajectory of clean energy investment opportunities.
