Improving New Zealand's quality of life.

About us

ACC NZ is an organisation quite unlike any other - in fact we are the only one of our kind in the world! At our heart is the fact we are an innovative New Zealand organisation born out of an idea - one focused on looking after the best interests of our people. So it will come as little surprise that a job with us offers an opportunity to do something that directly benefits the people of New Zealand, while also benefitting your career. There are three words that encapsulate our reason for being: prevention, care and recovery. We exist to actively minimise the chance of accidents happening. But when they do, we are here to help people with the appropriate levels of care and recovery with the aim of returning them to their normal lives faster. As you might expect, there are many people involved in making all this happen, and that's why there are many and varied career opportunities within our organisation. From Case Managers and Claims Managers to Clinical Advisors and Technical Claims Managers we offer many roles which open up a range of development avenues with ACC. What's more, we have locations around the country, all of which offer supportive, collegial workplaces. As part of the ACC's team of talented and passionate people you can also look forward to a host of benefits including flexible working options, competitive remuneration, ongoing career development opportunities, and a discounted healthcare scheme. So if ACC sounds like your type of place, let's talk today.

Since enabling access to Rongoā Māori as a rehabilitation service in 2020, we've funded more than 77,000 sessions and helped over 10,000 ACC kiritaki across the motu. 💙 Pita Pene, a Māori matua from the Waikato, experienced a long and emotionally challenging recovery from knee surgery. But the support of our ACC Hāpai programme he was able to make a full recovery and return to a fulfilling, independent life. Our ACC Hāpai team provide kiritaki Māori (Māori clients) and their whānau with culturally responsive support, grounded in tikanga Māori (Māori values and principles). “The support of the Māori ACC whānau has turned my life around,” Pita says. “It’s made me feel like, ‘I am here for a reason.’ Having that assurance that they’re there for me just gives me confidence to get back out there into the community.” 💪 Pita was so moved by the impact of the Hāpai programme on his life, he wrote a waiata (song) about his healing journey to acknowledge those who supported him. His waiata is based on a traditional Māori proverb: “Ehara taku toa he takitahi, ko taku toa he toa takitini (My strength is not mine alone but is of the collective).” We're touched by Pita's waiata and are proud to provide culturally responsive support through the Hāpai programme as part of our continuing efforts to deliver equity for Māori. 🙌

Our Deputy Chief Executive - Strategy Engagement and Planning, Andy Milne, shares how we're partnering with WorkSafe New Zealand and Safer Farms to help farmers across the motu get home safely every day. Tragically, accidents involving quad bikes have claimed the lives of four farmers across Aotearoa in the last month. It’s a sobering reminder to look at what you can do to keep yourself and others safe on the farm, especially during the busy lambing and calving season.

Deputy Chief Executive - Strategy Engagement and Planning at ACC New Zealand

Sadly, four New Zealand farmers lost their lives in accidents involving quad bikes over the last month. My thoughts and condolences are with their families and communities. I believe we have a collective responsibility to ensure every farmer, every quad bike rider, every New Zealander gets home safely at the end of every workday. Farm vehicle incidents are one of the top two causes of workplace deaths in our country. At ACC we work closely with WorkSafe to reduce harm in the agricultural sector. They are urging farmers to refocus on the risk of quad bike rollovers, including taking action by doing a risk assessment of terrain and tasks, and by investing in a crush protection device. We also partner with Safer Farms by supporting 'Farm Without Harm', a system wide strategy and commitment, to help prevent physical and mental harm to our farming whānau. They’ve launched the Safer Rides programme, offering farmers a discount to purchase a crush protection device. While the initial allocation is already full, which is encouraging, anyone interested can join a waitlist to apply for the discount. But the best initiatives, incentives, and discounts can only take us so far. We must encourage each other to adopt a safety mindset. At ACC we refer to this as stopping to ‘have a hmmm' - pausing and taking a moment to think and consider the possible consequences of our actions, so we can keep doing the things we love. Together we can help achieve our goal of getting everyone home safely at the end of every workday.

Congratulations to FirstMate New Zealand for winning the ACC 'Workplace Safety and Wellbeing' Award at last week's Seafood Stars Awards. 👏 FirstMate is a charity that has been recognised for their outstanding dedication to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of fishers and their whānau. They provide guidance and resources to help fishers navigate the challenges they face working at sea. 🙌 We'd like to acknowledge the team of Navigators at FirstMate who continue to support and give back to the fishing community. As part of our continuing efforts to deliver equity for Māori, we provide culturally responsive support through the Hāpai programme. Hāpai is currently available to kiritaki Māori (Māori clients) who have experienced serious or complex injuries. It provides them with one-to-one support, grounded in tikanga Māori (Māori values and principles). Pita Pene, a Māori matua from the Waikato, benefitted hugely from Hāpai during a long and emotionally challenging recovery from knee surgery. “The support of the Māori ACC whānau has turned my life around,” he says. “It’s made me feel like, ‘Yay, there is something, I am here for a reason.’ Having that assurance that they’re there for me just gives me confidence to get back out there into the community.” Pita was so moved by the impact of the Hāpai programme on his life, he wrote a waiata (song) about his healing journey to acknowledge those who supported him. His waiata is based on a traditional Māori proverb: “Ehara taku toa he takitahi, ko taku toa he toa takitini (My strength is not mine alone, but is of the collective).” “That’s pretty much it, in a nutshell,” Pita says. “If it wasn’t for ACC, I would not be here, strong and able, today.” Check out Pita’s full story and hear his waiata on our Newsroom 👉 https://acc.nz/3WQXqA0

We were delighted to attend GP24 - The Conference for General Practice last week in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington. 🙌 We loved engaging with GPs and medical students about supporting ACC clients in returning to work, accessing ACC services, and opportunities as impairment assessors. We also had some great discussions about promoting falls prevention in primary care, staying updated with ACC resources, and embracing cultural safety with our He kawa whakaruruhau policy. Our CEO, Megan Main, presented on our work to deliver better rehabilitation outcomes, including our move to value-based health care and the launch of our new integrated care pathway for musculoskeletal injuries - ICPMSK. At our stand, we showcased: 🔷 Recovery at Work: Building provider confidence in work capacity certification and raising awareness of direct referrals to vocational rehab and medical assessment services, including vocational rehabilitation review (VRR). 🔷 Falls Prevention: Promoting the "Live Stronger for Longer" initiative and the ACC-funded Nymbl app for balance training. 🔷 Integrated Care Pathway (ICPMSK): Supporting clients to access these vital services. Thank you to everyone who visited our stand and participated in these meaningful discussions. A big thanks to The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners for a great conference! 🌿
