A chemical element, in the periodic table Lawrencium has the symbol Lr and atom number 103. Discovered in 1961 by Albert Ghiorso, Torbjorn Sikkeland, Almon Larsh and Robert M. Latimer, it is a synthetic element that does not occur in nature. The origin of the Amercian Chemical Society preferred name is in reference to Ernest O. Lawrence, inventor of the cyclotron.
