Labrador duck (Camptorhynchus labradorius). This eider-like sea duck was never very common. Although it has been hunted for food, it probably died out because of decline due to pollution of mussels and shellfish that it fed on. It was thought to breed in Labrador and could be found as far south as Chesapeake Bay.
The last Labrador duck was seen at Elmira, New York in December 12, 1878.
