Benches play a vital role in our public lives, offering opportunities for relaxation and social interaction. Since 2021, Dr. Julia King and Olivia Theocharides-Feldman have led the Young Researchers-in-Residence program at LSE Cities at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). During their research into the use of public space by teenage girls, they discovered that benches, often used as hangout spots, are both essential and contentious for this demographic. This summer, we are collaborating with the City of Stockholm (Stockholms stad) to create temporary and accessible social meeting places for the city's youth, a project close to our hearts💛⁠ ⁠ At the Kulturpontonen (in English, "the Cultural Pontoon") in Liljeholmshamnen, space is created for both activities and socializing! One of the organizers, Outdoor Sessions, hosts dance sessions with international choreographers, making the pontoon amazingly lively. ⁠ "Culture is an important part of the city's work in developing the quays. This year, we had the pleasure of having Vestre and Jernhusen AB with us to enhance the experience and bring the quays to life. The beautiful view from the pontoon, combined with a first-class program by and for young people, has been the charm and attraction that made people discover the place and its potential, making them want to come back. Now, the Cultural Pontoon has become a destination in its own right," says Fariba Daryani, project manager at the City of Stockholm. #socialmeetingplaces

Last Saturday, we hosted our very first Open Day at The Plus - and wow, what a day🥳 Over 1000 adults and children came to explore the world's most environmentally friendly furniture factory and enjoy other fun activities like horse riding, face painting, mega Jenga, prize-filled puzzles, and so much more. We also handed out a whopping 1,400 hot dogs and probably the same amount of ice cream!⁠ ⁠ A special thanks to all the local contributors and to everyone who joined us for a fantastic day in the forest at Magnor! Until next year...⁠ ⁠ In the meantime, our green roof with furniture and an ice cream stand, and the Forest Camp are open 24/7. You can also peek into the production through the 2,000 square meters of glass windows, or you can book a guided tour at www.theplus.no!⁠

This month marks 2 years since The Plus officially opened its doors🥳 We've been busy bees, completing around 72,000 orders in over 600 colors and finishes, creating social meeting places across more than 30 countries.⁠ ⁠ We have showed off a transparent and welcoming factory to over 7000 visitors interested in sustainable production, architecture and design! And have received amazing awards like the DOGA Award for Design and Architecture for The Plus' refreshing contrast to traditional production facilities, and the recent BREEAM award for Grønn Byggallianse as the new best building. ⁠ A huge shoutout to to all our visitors, dedicated workers, partners, suppliers, the designers at BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group and everyone who has contributed to make the world's most environmentally friendly furniture factory in Magnor happen! We're forever grateful💚⁠

Yesterday, Vestre received the BREEAM Award from Grønn Byggallianse for The Plus as the best new building🥳 A special thanks to our 100 (!) external collaborators such as BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group, Ø.M. Fjeld, Fokus Rådgivning AS, Mattak and Woodcon AS to mention a few🙏 ⁠ ⁠ The jury's statement:⁠ «The Plus has set a new standard for industrial buildings and has become an attraction in the industry and the local area. It is a unique building with a good combination of industry, architecture, and sustainability. They have actively spread the message about the sustainability qualities they have achieved both nationally and internationally, and that they have prioritized sustainability in this project despite a higher cost. The project has had a holistic sustainability mindset that also includes the products that are produced in the building. The Plus has achieved the highest available BREEAM-NOR classification; Outstanding.»⁠ Thank you, Grønn Byggallianse!

One of the main elements in the Vestre Cultural Platform is One Team. We are all equally important, dependent on each other and working together. In Vestre, we use our cultural platform as a tool that defines us, describes what got us here, and what will help us succeed moving forward. This weekend, The Vestre team joined the world´s largest relay race, Holmenkollstafetten, in Oslo, Norway. Through 15 stages spanning from 300 to 3,000 meters, the team joined 72,000 other runners in beautiful sunshine. Team members from our factories in Torsby and The Plus joined in, as well as sales colleagues from the Berlin and Oslo offices. 🏃♂️ 🏃♀️ As we always Strive For Better (another one of the Vestre cultural principles), we are happy to announce that we beat our previous record by 14 minutes.
