Steel cutting ceremony for NB 980. 💥 On July 1st the steel cutting ceremony for NB 980 was held in Vard Shipyards Romania - Braila. The construction of the cable laying vessel for Toyo Construction Co.,ltd has been hitting its milestones, including this event, leading to the scheduled completion by the first half of 2026. The hybrid power cable lay and construction vessel is of VARD 9 15 design, a design especially developed for the need of the customer to cater for the growing Japanese offshore windfarm market, as well as to operate worldwide.    It will have an optimal hull design to suit the natural and construction conditions in Japan, allowing it to be used in both shallow waters and deep waters for floating offshore wind power generation and DC power transmission projects. She will be able to carry out construction work at a high rate of operation in a wide range of ocean areas.   The tailor-made vessel is 150m long and a beam of 28m with cable carrying capacity of 9500 tons. Successful launching of NB 945. 🎉   30th June NB 945 for North Star was launched at Vard Vung Tau, Vietnam. This is an important milestone for the last of four Service Operation Vessels (SOV) built by Vard Vung Tau for North Star. Shipbuilder's Cup 2024 - the tradition continues.⚽ The Shipbuilder's Cup is currently taking place at Vard Shipyards Romania, Tulcea until July 10. A total of 11 football teams are competing for the grand trophy on our own shipyard stadium. The finals and award ceremony will take place on August 3rd, featuring two exciting football matches. As always, we look forward to a festive atmosphere and great sportsmanship. This yearly event is a wonderful symbol of teamwork and camaraderie across all departments and nationalities within our company. We are proud to inform that SeaZero won Best Concept Ship Design at the prestigious Electric & Hybrid Marine Awards in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. 💥 One year ago, VARD, Hurtigruten and our partners in the Sea Zero research project launched the first revision of our ship design concept, aiming to be the world's most energy efficient and environmentally friendly passenger cruise ship in operation. 🌍 The ship’s design concept features state-of-the-art solutions like contra-rotating propellers, air lubrication to reduce water resistance, retractable sails and large batteries. The goal is to build a ship that can sail without emissions during normal operation. "We are developing the concept for the world’s most innovative cruise design and researching to find the optimal design methods suitable for zero-emission ships. The streamlined shape, with its innovative hull and propulsion solutions, not only reduces energy demand but also increases passenger comfort. In the process, we are developing new design tools and exploring new technologies for energy efficiency," said Henrik Burvang, Research & Innovation Manager in VARD. The award was accepted by Chief Operating Officer in Hurtigruten, Gerry Larsson-Fedde.
