Solar and wind collectively could provide more than 50% of the global power output by 2035 rising to 68% by 2050 😮 📊 Our Green Transition Scenarios 2024 report projects the collective power output of wind and solar to quadruple by 2030 and increase 1300% by 2050 globally in its most optimistic scenario. That would make them collectively the world's dominant sources of power generation. In this scenario, solar and wind alone provide more than 50% of the global power output from 2035 onwards, rising up to 68% by 2050. But what do our analysts see is driving the projections? 🌬 When it comes to onshore wind, cost has continued to decline despite challenges experienced over the last three years (in the bigger picture, the cost of wind power fell by more than 30% between 2010 and 2020). And while the report envisions the recent rise in turbine costs impacting projects commissioned between 2023 and 2025, the industry is experiencing a plateauing and stabilisation of turbine prices. In the longer term, costs are expected to trend downwards, driven by a normalisation of material prices and pricing competition between manufacturers. 🌞 Solar’s rise is defined by two consistent factors: falling costs and the short time to build. Added to this is solar’s relatively predictable production time and flexibility in terms of location. Importantly for solar, too, recent cost increases driven by inflated material prices and strained supply chains have begun to ease with raw materials mostly back to pre-pandemic levels. 👇 This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the report’s projections. ✨ Groundbreaking news, literally! The solar park project in Zerbst is progressing, marking a significant moment for renewable energy in Germany! This project will be the largest planned solar and battery storage hybrid system in the country and Statkraft's first hybrid project. Project Highlights: 🌞 Largest Hybrid in Germany: With a peak output of 47 MW, the 41-hectare solar park can supply up to 14,000 households with green electricity. 🔋 Advanced Battery Storage: Featuring a 16 MW, 55 MWh system (equivalent to around 750 electric cars) that will store excess solar power for several hours. 🌍 Environmental Benefits: Expected to save approximately 32,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually. 🗓️ Timeline: Groundbreaking occurred on October 29, with plans to connect to the grid by the end of 2025. Thank you to our guests from Zerbst and Saxony-Anhalt, as well as our project partners. This innovative hybrid system represents a significant step toward reducing reliance on fossil fuels and contributing to a sustainable future.

We’re thrilled to share that we've been selected to negotiate a grant of up to €107 million from the EU Innovation Fund! This funding will help us set up a 200 MW electrolyser and a 50 MW heat pump system in Emden, Lower Saxony, which could produce 20,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen and 50,000 MWh of green heat each year. ✨ 💶 The EU Innovation Fund backs projects that pioneer technologies to cut greenhouse gas emissions in Europe. We're eager to support German industry with green hydrogen, and we’ve already signed several letters of intent with potential customers in Emden for green hydrogen and district heating, with surplus heat feeding into the local network. 💚♨ Huge thanks to our dedicated project team for achieving this milestone! 🌍 Highlights from #RESource2024: Europe's Biggest Renewable Energy Event! 💡 Here’s what we learned: ➡ Accelerating Shift to Clean Energy Europe’s PPA market reached 16.2 GW last year—a 40% rise from 2022! With European companies paying 2-3x more for electricity than their U.S. and Chinese counterparts, renewables have become a necessity, not just a sustainability goal. 🎤 Navigating Challenges in Energy Our SVP Origination, Einar Hoffart, discussed how companies are tackling price volatility and regulatory uncertainty through renewables. We are leading with tailored PPAs and hybrid solutions to support secure, affordable, and sustainable energy. 🎤 PPAs & Hydrogen In a roundtable, Timo Kryßon, Head of Downstream Origination in Iberia, emphasized the importance of aligning renewable energy with hydrogen needs. Leveraging electrolyser flexibility will help make green hydrogen affordable. 🎤 Price Cannibalisation & Grid Flexibility Our Head of New Business, Klaas Bauermann, explored strategies to manage negative prices and grid congestion by combining wind, solar, hydropower, and batteries. Our flexible solutions ensure security and reliability in a dynamic market. 💡 Key Takeaway: Renewables are now essential for stability and competitiveness, and we are committed to delivering what businesses need to stay ahead in the evolving energy landscape. 🌍⚡ RE-Source Platform

We are optimising our portfolio to build scale, strength, and profitability in high potential markets, so that we can continue our legacy of profitable growth and support to a net-zero future. How will we achieve this? 💧 We will focus on Norwegian hydropower and global market operations. ☀ We will grow in solar, wind, and battery storage in the Nordics, Europe, and South America, aiming to deliver 2-2.5 GW annually from 2026. 🌊 We will pursue an industrial role within offshore wind industry in Northern Europe, and build a position as an industrial developer of green hydrogen as the market matures. Our commitment to ambitious growth targets remains, and we will concentrate our investments and organisation on fewer countries to build scale, competitiveness, and value. To further support the sharpened strategy, we will also introduce an updated organisation and a new corporate management, effective from 1 January 2025. We have submitted a planning application for the Baltic Offshore Delta North wind farm, a transformative project with a capacity of 2.1 GW, located approximately 100 kilometres east of Stockholm. 🌬️ The proposed wind farm includes 105 bottom-fixed wind turbines and has the potential to supply the greater Stockholm region with an annual production of approximately 8 TWh of electricity, which corresponds to 40 percent of the current electricity consumption in Stockholm County. Jakob Norström, SVP Country Manager of Sweden, highlights three aspects, which combined, makes the Delta North wind farm unique: ⚡ Vastly increases electricity production in the Stockholm region to meet high energy demand from consumers and industry. 👁 Developed to ensure minimal visual impact—expected to have low to no visibility from land. ⚙️ Leverages cost-effective, mature bottom-fixed turbine foundations. “Progressing our Swedish offshore wind portfolio in a market where Statkraft has a strong presence is crucial for realising our ambition to develop 6-8 GW of offshore wind by 2040. The Delta application is one of many as we aim to position Sweden as a key offshore wind market in Northern Europe,” said David Flood, SVP Offshore Wind.
