Insurance is no substitute for risk analysis and this applies to health as it does to any other aspect of insurance. Skuld has PEME (Pre Employment Medical Examination Programme) programmes in India, The Philippines, and Ukraine to help members select a healthy crew.    The Skuld PEME is an enhanced medical examination programme run in cooperation with Medical Rescue International. It involves an examination schedule that goes beyond a standard PEME carried out in accordance with the national standards and the Maritime Labour Convention. The programme has proven to be an efficient tool in reducing the risk of crew falling ill while onboard.    We provide approved clinics capable of performing high-quality examinations. Skuld audits the clinics and ensures that examinations are performed by competent medical staff at clinics with the required equipment. On 3 July, Anestis I. Dimitriadis from our Skuld Hellas office attended a workshop with the Hellenic Coast Guard, arranged by the Greek Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Marine Environmental Protection Directorate in Piraeus. Representatives from the International Group of P&I Clubs, including various P&I Clubs, were present. The workshop provided insight into the Marine Environmental Protection Directorate's role and responsibilities in maritime casualties. This workshop is part of the Group's commitment, under its 2023 Memorandum of Understanding, to collaborate with the Ministry and the Hellenic Coast Guard in responding to serious maritime incidents. It is key that the crew of a ship is in good health. Skuld’s experience shows that a healthy crew is less likely to make mistakes, which could lead to accidents or serious incidents. Life on board can be challenging, especially when there are time constraints to complete tasks. Prioritising tasks and managing time effectively is important to avoid stress and pressure. Only a healthy and robust crew can focus on their work ahead and stay alert. This will also improve safety on board as a more alert crew is more likely to stay focused and avoid making mistakes or taking shortcuts. When the crew is healthy and content on board, the development of illnesses, especially mental illness, may subside. As global trade continues to rely heavily on maritime routes, the security of these waterways remains a critical concern. The mid-2024 reports on maritime security from the International Maritime Bureau's Piracy Reporting Centre (IMB PRC) and the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia Information Sharing Centre (ReCAAP ISC) present a nuanced picture of global piracy trends. While the overall number of reported incidents has decreased, several concerning developments have emerged.   #piracy #security #restassured.

We had a blast at our annual Skuld Hamburg midsummer sailing regatta on 3 July. Over fifty brave sailors took on the strong winds of Alster Lake and showed their skills in a thrilling race. Great effort, everyone! ⛵ The fun continued at our evening party, where 120 guests enjoyed delicious food, lively music, and friendly conversations. For once, the rain stayed away, and we had a pleasant night, despite the low temperatures. We appreciate everyone who joined us for this memorable event. Since 1 January 2024, the EU Emission Trading System (ETS) Directive applies to maritime transport. For the 2024 calendar year any shipping company having cargo or passenger ships of 5,000 gross tonnage (GT) or above calling a port located in the EEA (European Economic Area) for commercial purposes must cover 40% of the total CO2 emissions reported for 2024 with EU emission allowances ("EUAs") irrespective of the vessel's flag or her owner's nationality. Skuld sees a steady flow of questions from shipowners and charterers about how to obtain the EUAs and in general on how to deal with the obligations under the charterparty. The International Group of P&I Clubs has approved a second version of the User Agreement: TradeGo User Agreement (2024.06.12) ('the Second User Agreement'). The most significant change is that in addition to the electronic bills of lading framework in the User Agreement, the Second User Agreement allows for interoperability, namely the transfer of electronic bills of lading to, and from, a third-party platform. #ebills #restassured.
